So.... According to Motor Trend, there will be another Boss 302 in 2007 ( I think), and it'll come with the "all-new" 302 "hurricane" engine. It also says that by 2008, this hurricane motor in a slightly detuned form will be put in the Mustang GT.

Is this the cammer motor? Sounds like a super idea to me. The article says the Boss 302 will make around 425hp. If so, I'd anticipate 380-400hp in the GT. For me, it's about time Ford made a substantial increase in the Mustang GT's power output. There really hasn't been a substantial increase in power like this since the 60's, and largely the power increases for the last decade have been offset by the increasing weight of the Mustang. Now more than ever, the mustang has got to increase power to keep the performance icon. With Toyota Camry making 270hp, an "American Muscle Car" making 300hp is laughable.

To me the big news is about the mustang GT, which gives us a glimmer of hope that the Mustang GT is going to put up similar performance numbers in stock form to the new Camaro, and the new Challenger both of which will make over 400hp stock and will have a lot more displacement, and thus a stronger powerband, than a 400hp 302. The stang will still be cheaper and will already have a better grasp of the market. I agree with the side-bar in Motor Trend that says the mustang is going to make it tough for the new Chevy and Dodge to become popular. I know one thing, the Mustang isn't going anywhere for a long time.

An article from Steve Saleen was saying the new Stangs will be around 350hp.

"Car Crazy: Are you going to bump up the horsepower on your Saleen Mustang cars when Ford adds horsepower in 2009?

Steve Saleen: Yes we are. I just talked to Alan Mulally (Ford Motor Co. Chief Executive) about the 2009 facelift year and what kind of added power the GT and Cobra will get.

Car Crazy: What kind of added power did he talk about for the 09 model year?

Saleen: Nothing extreme, it's only a facelift year, but enough to make my current engine upgrades obsolete. They're aiming for 350 horsepower out of the V8 in the GT, and they're only adding about ten or fifteen horsepower to the GT500.

Car Crazy: Can you give us an idea of what you'll do to for your Saleen models?

Saleen: We don't know yet exactly, but we've had many meetings on what we want. We're aiming to get around 385 horsepower out of the S281 3 Valve with around 390 lb-ft of torque. The S281 Supercharged model will get 500 horses even with around 460 lb-ft of torque, and expect about a fifteen horsepower increase on the (S281) Extreme Mustang over the 2007 model (that's 565 horsepower and 535 lb-ft of torque)."

Yeah the only special edition that has Ford has specifically mentioned was the Bullitt for 2008.

I hope whatever they do to massage 350 horse out of the facelift in 2009 will be compatible with the 05-08 Mustangs. Kinda like the PI heads and intake were for the SN95

Hey fast driver, love the avatar. And when they finally pulled the body, from the twisting, burning wreck, it looked like......THIS! Large Marge rocks! Anyway, back on topic. I think it sucks they are only making (supposedly) 1000 or so Boss Mustangs. Those will be nice collectors though.
