Box Designs... 3 10's

I'm tossing around some ideas about box set ups... the specs are for a T-4 Trantula SoundStream 10" sub. 1.7 cubic feet, port (4x11.25), and hole = 9.5".

So I'm trying to find out some box designs, and just made these in the paint program on my computer... not to detailed but gets the idea accross i think.

The first idea, just a HUGE box, I'm not positive it will fit, but I'm thinking it will. If you could check my math to make sure I did it right, I'm a bit tired so I'm not 100% sure on the math.

Second idea, one seperate box per sub. Just angled the side boxes facing in. Once again, I'm not possitive about the math. I think this one will prob. fit better, but I'm not sure on sound or that sort.




Please show your 3 sub boxes, and how you did those. Give me a fresh set of eyes. :SNSign: :SNSign: :SNSign:

Did you get those specs off of their website? You may want to check them in a box building program like winisd, a lot of manufacturers recommend a higher tune that may not sound too great.

The first box looks ok, but probably won't fit. The second may fit, but may cause some cancellation with the outside subs angled in. My suggestion is to face the subs up and the port up or backward, this will let you use the contours of the trunk better.

I like that one but this is just me I'd face the subs into the rear window and the port firing into the cabin area. Seems just a little more showey IMO. Also I saw a box along time ago where they had 2 facing the same direction and the 3rd facing the other ie 2 firing into the cabin area and the 3rd into the hatch. with the Ports facing the hatch area.

I'm going to the car with a tape measure this afternoon, but I did get the specs of their website. Does it really matter which way the ports face? I like the "crx" box, but I would turn the port so the long side is on the bottom, and have the subs still facing the hatch. I'm open to suggestions of all kinds.

I was thinking about subs facing different directions i.e. 2 facing back, one forward, or one facing back, and one to each side. The only thing about having one face the front, and 2 going back, is that box will have to be LONG to get to the 5.1 cubic feet for all three subs.

Any time you run subs and ports on more than one plane (front and back, or top and forward/back) you run the risk of cancellation. The CRX style box may also cause some cancellation, but with the port facing the rear, it should cause less cancellation than facing the front. (you have to imagine the sound waves not only traveling forward, but also backward against the glass and rear)

Well I just got home for misc. things and measuring space. The first box will fit if my measurements are correct. The problem is that it will be in the VERY back of the hatch. In the wider part near the back (further back than the rear strut towers in a fox car) So it will be about 1" from the back wall. That can't be too good.

The second box should fit better, but still be too tight for my comfort.

It looks like I will run 2 facing the back and have the other one where the bench of the rear seat used to be.

What kind of car is this going into? I just got done building a 2.5 cubic foot ported box for my 2000 Vert. Let me know what the subs require and the model car and I could be of some assistance.

Its going in a '90 hatch, each sub is said to get 1.7 cubic feet, and the port is 4x11.25. I'm not too keen on the box specs. http://www.soundstream.com/sub/products_subs_t4_d.html
