Box for 2 12" subs

So, i just recently got 2 12" subs and a jbl bp1200.1 amp. I saw this box online and I was wondering if you guys could give me some input.

This is the box - Ford Mustang Coupe 2005 - 2010 Dual 12" Subwoofer Box Sealed Enclosure (Black) - 2X12FORD-05-09-MSTNG

Its $84 but i was strongly considering building a replica myself. do any of you have this box or have you built something similar? do you have any recommendations or possibly some dimensions or designs you'd like to share? I've built a pretty complicated sub box before for a friend of mine. it served as a dual console and sub box for his car when he replaced his stock bench seats with racing seats. how hard would this be?

Well, first off, with the high efficiency achieved by their subs, I REALLY doubt they take rated power, plus Boss is known for REALLY overrating products. Also, they don't list any specs on their site. So, I guess that the would work in that box, they just may not sound very good. My only advice is, if you haven't already bought those subs, DO NOT BUY BOSS AUDIO!!! Buy from a brand that makes a quality product, you'll be much happier. A quality brands sub rated at 300 RMS would walk all over that boss, there is no way that motor or a 2 1/2" coil can take that kind of power on a daily basis. But, if you already have those, then I guess just find a box to put them in, they list no useful information for choosing box size to achieve a certain frequency response. Looks like you'll be flying blind with those subs.

I do already have them, and unless you have tried them you may want to rethink that statement. They are legit for their price, i know they are over rated on their power handling but they sound amazing for the price paid. i used to have an alpine type r and an m500 alpine amp before someone stole it and although these are definitely not alpine quality they are still amazing to me. I wanted something cost efficient to satiate my taste for some punchy bass and these do the job perfect. i appreciate you looking out for a fellow mustang owner, but if you havent tried you may wanna give them a listen.

Actually, I HAVE messed around with them, a friend picked them up without talking to me first. I let him borrow my spare amp, an AQ 1200 to run them and they lasted about 2 weeks before we had the surround start to tear. The signal was completely clean, yet if we set the gains on the amp to give the subs anywhere over 400 watts a piece, the coil would start to smell. A 2 1/2" coil just is NOT meant to handle that kind of power. Not to mention the super soft spiders and suspension they had to use to achieve an efficiency that high. Combine that soft and loose suspension with a weaker surround and a spider that easily tears, and you have a sub that gets loud for a short period of time before it wears out. And you can't recone a Boss sub, so once it's done, it's dead. But back to your original question, nobody can tell you if that box will work since Boss lists absolutely no T/s parameters with which to model the subs response in different enclosures. So your only option is to try it and see how you like it. The box IS a tad on the small side, which might work to your advantage since the small internal volume will severely limit low-frequency response, and the less lows you throw at that sub, the longer the soft parts will last. So, from a response standpoint, there is no way to say if that enclosure is good. From the standpoint of aiding the suspension on the sub to handle a reasonable amount of power (the coil is still going to be the limiting factor), that enclosure might be your best bet. Either way, best of luck with whatever you go with! Hope you enjoy it!

yeah. i dont do a whole lot of boomy bass. I mainly listen to deathcore and just want some good punchy bass, and some extra oomph on the bass drops. well alright, thanks man. i guess i'll just go at it and see how it does. thanks for the input. if i smoke em i guess ill just have to get something better and boomier. :)
