hey guys my parking brake warning light has been going on and off for probably about a year...i havent noticed any consistency to its appearance or disappearance...im thinking it needs some master cylinder fluid added? can i just do this myself or should i get it checked out?

thanks!

The parking brake is enganged by a lever and cable. I dont think the fluid has anything to do with it. However, mine has been on now for a month and I havent bothered to look at it yet. I think the length and tension can be adjusted where it hooks up to the rear calipers. Maybe I'll look at mine and let ya know what I find out.

Low brake fluid level will trigger the brake light. Check your fluid level

i have my console out right now. the parking brake light is triggered by a little spring mounted screw mounted at the base of the parking brake. it looks like it is adjustable. you have to take the console out to get to it though, that takes about 15 minutes. i bet you could get it done in an hour.

The guys are right. The E-brake and fluid sensor can both cause the light. If the system is not leaking and was topped up after a pad swap, but now the light is on, consider the pads being about finished (as they wear, the fluid level drops).

Sometimes a hill, acceleration, braking, etc can cause the fluid to slosh and the light to come on briefly. On some cars I've seen the floats for the sensor get wonky (I cant remember if we use a float or a fixed level switch).

Good luck.

Damn hissin youre full of all sorts of useful information! My light breifly turns off when I leave a light, but then comes back on solid. I bet my fluid is low cause my rear pads are shot. New pads are going on, so that problem should fix itself.
