I thought I would start a thread on this, I have seen some posts from people that have been to the track that our stock brakes are....

.... "wimpy".

Well, with all of our focus on making power, I'm wondering if upgraded brakes will actually help our launch by power braking. I can't find many options for brake ideas, perhaps GT take offs. Here is what I found so far:

With more and more of us getting into power adders, I'm really thinking we should start looking into this upgrade, though not as glamorous as a super charger or gears. LOL.

But I am really re-thinking that my next set of upgrades should be focused on launches, that being brakes, than some lca's.

Throughts everyone?

i dont think that brakes will help your launch. some sticky tires and LCAs would be a better investment IMO. i dont remember if you have an auto or manual, but if its an auto, look into a trans brake. that would give you what you are looking for, rather than the normal brakes.

Thanks Bigcat, yes I'm an auto! I was thinking more of power braking, but a trans brake, is that the same as a stall converter? I still have a lot to learn so any suggestions are appreciated.

this might help you out a little.....

heres they key quote in there for you at this time.....

TCI tells customers to move up to a trans brake only after they've already installed a torque converter that is well suited to their vehicle combination (weight, camshaft, gear ratio, traction potential, and so on).

Excellent, thanks! I'll have a read of it.

Very good read, I need to re-read it in more detail several times. But according to this, I need a new TC first. I'm wondering if one is even out for the 6, I know they are out for the GT's. Will have to research this one.

Don't think there are any TC out for our V6 yet... Best bet would be to buy a new one from Ford and send it some where to get it loosened up... There's a place Lidio recommened but I need to remember who... LOL! Probably run you about $300 or so to have it modified... it's going to be a fairly expensive mod, I think...

I've thought about it but just can't pull the trigger on this one...

if you plan on doing any racing besides test and tune, a transbrake will throw you in a different class.. (or so it seems)

Our stock TC has a stall speed of about 2400 to 2600... thing is my brakes really can't hold my car back much beyond 1800 to 2000 RPM... (my 4.10s???)
