Brake Upgrade needed?

I'm looking @ putting a 17x9 wheel on my 03 GT. Will the stock brakes hold up or do I need to upgrade? Also, Is it even worth upgrading to a 17x9 wheel, should I wait and put something like Saleens 18x10 wheel, seems a little big? I don't drive her too hard so it would be more of a cosmetic upgrade than functional...but its always nice to hook up.

If I didn't get them from my local speed shop I'd go with Tirerack.com, has any body worked with them before?

with the brake issue, i'd say its a good idea to upgrade. the stock brakes suck if you like to go fast alot. i ran through an intersection and almost into the wall of a cliff cuz my brakes got too hot. Needless to say, Im a little more careful when i drive now.
I have a upgrade coming in the very near future.
