Bucket + headrest seats in a '66?

I'm looking to make things a bit safer for myself and add more form-fitting racing style seats with headrests and at least a 3-pt harness seatbelt (as opposed to the old style 2-pt that was stock) ... problem is all the seats i've seen don't match the car at all. I need to find something that looks like it belongs in my car, and the closest i've found is procar seats, but they don't offer the color i need. Anyone else have experience with this?

As far as other choices in seats, you could add bolt-in headrests to your stock seats.

Choices for seats other than Procar include Flofit and Corbeau. I loved the Flofits I had in my Vert. They made my cross-county journeys way more comfortable. Flofits are also available without any fabric so you can have an upholstry shop skin them with whatever you like.

Looking through M&F magazine today i had the same idea in making my stang a safer ride especially after my mom rolled her ford explorer. I saw a page in there advertising a kit including the headrest and retractable three point harness. Is this a good kit to use or would replacing the seats be better? These seats were in good condition and were reupholstered right before i bought the car. So procar or stock seat kit??

Even with headrests and retarctable belts youve still got uncomfortable seats. Im in the exact same situation as you. I need them in 65 Bright red, or at least something thats close.

Not too toot my own horn....but 2001 Mustang Bullet Seats look just right in my 65.
The leather is dull black, the vertical weave insets just right At the latest show (sunday) EVERY person who looked at the car wanted to know where the seats came from because they looked so good in the car

I have a 65 too, and i think that would look alot better than a factory seat with a headrest. Did you buy the seats brand new or did you pull them out of the 2001? What kind of mounting hardware did it take to put them in the 65? How much did it cost in the end. Worth it???

I've pretty much resigned myself to the fact that I'll probably have to have the things reupholstered in order to make them fit my interior colors... but that just means I can get used ones with less-than-perfect coverings on them for cheaper... if I can find them.

As for the 2001 Bullitt seats, I'll bet those could be had used for pretty cheap, and then they could be reupholstered to match the interior. That may be a good bit cheaper than the flofits new... still looking into both.

I paid $800 for the seats. Someone else had already pulled them from a wrecked 01 so I had to pay a little premium....but none of the yards had any within 200 miles of homebase....worth every penny though.

Installation was easy.

I swapped my old 65 tracks onto the bottom....since the bottom of the neewer seats are no longer flat I just made up some spacers using grade eight hardware.....drilled 2 holes on the seat bottom (one hole on each side is reuable) and bolted them down.

I was not happy at first with the way the driver side seat sat in relation to the wheel....the late model seats are thicker than original seats so my legs were closer to the steering wheel. I fixed the problem by taking the seat track off, drilling another set of holes in the seat bottom as far forward on the base as A could go and still use a tool to get a bolt tight, and just bolted the seat straight down to the floor. (aka - no adustable) The 1 inch or so in height combined with the 1 inch rearward movement makes it a perfect fit now for me and everyone else that happens to be about 5'8'' or taller.

As for the 2001 Bullitt seats, I'll bet those could be had used for pretty cheap, and then they could be reupholstered to match the interior. That may be a good bit cheaper than the flofits new... still looking into both.

LOL, no. Bullitt seats are highly sought after by both classic and latemodel guys. Couple that with the fact that the '01 Bullitt was a low volume car, and most are babied (not totaled or raced), and they can be very, very pricey. I would love to have Bullitt seats in mine, but there was no way for me to afford them. I wasn't worried at all about having the seats look vintage, so I went with modern racing seats.

EDIT: Dodgestang, I would consider $800 an incredibly good price for those seats. Good find.

The bullitt seats are best I've seen. Price... won't happen for me. Has anyone tried those bolt on head rest kits?? The head rest looks goofy but what if you used the same idea and used a nice looking headrest (later Capri/ Mustang or even some Hondas have nice ones) and painted the vinyl to match your interior if they are plastic, or just get the head rest redone to match if they are upholstered - I have a red int too. Would that look goofy??

How about a roll bar with the vintage-racer look pads attached to the roll bars - does anyone have pictures, as I would still like to use my back seat.

I went with seats from an '82 Toyota Supra. Got them for $15 a piece from a wrecking yard and had them re-upholstered. The seats look similar to Flofits and have thigh, bolster, shoulder, lumbar, headrest and reclining adjustments.

Pictures!!! I can get tons of them at that price too from Pick-A-Part. I thought they might look good but haven't sen any re-don. How much did it cost to have the re-done?? Curious...
