Every time I go WOT I smell a burning smell. I'm thinking its the belts. What can I do to stop this or do you guys think it could be something else?

i have this smell as well. it usually comes from the back of the car when my tach-0-meter goes to the red part. its smells like rubber but im not sure. last time i had a buddy follow me to track down the smell and where it was coming from, but when i tried to replicate it, his LS1 couldnt keep up, and i think hes still at the light to this day, coughing from the smell.

anyways, you could just replace the belt and find out, theyre like 30 bucks i think. if theyre glazed then theyll just slip under load.

if you were manual id ask how your clutch felt, but nevermind on that.

Yup, same smell, smells like rubber. After I got home I checked the belts and they seem fine. It is strange why it only happens around the red line RPM.

check the belt tensioner.. you can test it by pulling on the belt, try a few different spots... If you can't move the tensioner then it's bad.

I was thinking the same...14 flat at 102...has a trap speed higher than you though...

I get the same thing...sometimes it is clutch but lately it has been more of an electrical smell...I've got something fooey on the alternator again I think.

While your checking the tensioner, take a look at the belt to see if it looks like it's been slipping. If it looks shiny and glazed you may need to swap it out.
