I've settled on the polished SQ S-trim and plan on using the FMU and recalibrating my Prom-M Maf. This is what was suggested by Lidio at Alternative Auto, and they are the ones that will be tuning it.

I dont have an intake manifold or headers, but I also dont have any additional gauges or anything else to go with the blower.

I have about $1300 to play with after the blower purchase.

Suggestions? :D

Not quite sure on what you are ACTUALLY buying.

If you get the kit, you dont "need" any other accessories. You dont need to recal the MAF if you keep your same injectors. (didnt mention).

If you are just getting the head for now, $1300 will not be enough for all the other stuff you need to go with it....You need gauges, hoses brackets, a tune and/or tuner, etc.

We need more info, but make sure you have your $hit in order before you start.

here are some things to that come to mind bigger injecters, bigger mass air, power pipe, and an intake ,and lastley a 255 intank pump.oh and a msd 6al
Good to see you comin' round a little more Troy.

Guess we still need to find out more specifics about what he has/needs. The stuff you listed is important...but I was assuming he just wanted the basics.

Hard to put in a Vortech though and not install/want those extra items.

I'm getting the full kit, not the tuner kit. And I know to have my sh1zzle together beforehand, thats why this thead exists. :)

I have a Walbro 255lph 'high capacity' or whatever, just need to install it.

Lidio suggested to run it with all the Vortech parts and then go bigger injectors/maf down the road if I want to run more boost or if i get some better intake parts. He said driveabilty and power were still great with the fmu until you swapped the pulley or got better flowing engine components.

I dont have an ignition on the car, but I do have a msd blaster coil. Only other mods are offroad hpipe, 75mm Prom-m maf, Fluidyne radiator, and custom burned autologic chip. Otherwise engine is bone stock.

I was just looking for opinions on gauges, ignition, and whatever supporting fuel mods are neccesary or highly reccomended when putting a blower on a very stock car. :)

I would at least get the fuel pressure/boost gauges and ignition before anything else. Something with a boost retard option in the cockpit. Other than that you should be good to go with the other components you listed. If you have a stockish clutch you may want to upgrade that sometime down the road.

i'd definately get an intake manifold as that will help out a lot with the blower...also, you will need bigger injectors because 19lbs will not support a blower.....therefore the parts list should be like this

-intake manifold
-i'd say 30 lb inj?? maybe a lil bigger
-recalibrate your mass air to handle the bigger inj, or get a new one
-possibly a bigger tb (you dont want all that air passing thru such a small opening...not to mention if you get an aftermarket intake manifold, the inlet on most is 65mm of larger....
-DEFINATELY gauges....at least a boost gauge and fuel pressure gauge, if not more
-MSD 6al

this may or may not be a little bit over $1300, but if you shop around, and get some used parts, you may be in luck....one of the guys over in the 5.0 section has an edelbrock performer 5.0 intake for sale for $250:D hop on that ****!!!

opening up the intake track will make the most difference. 70 or 75mm t/b, upper/lower intakes.

what about an intercooler?

i have 30# injectors; pm me if you are interested in them.

then there's alot of little stuff that may or may not come with the kit, like gaskets, vacuum tubes, check valves to isolate components from boost, ... are you asking about that kind of stuff too or just the big stuff?

some people take this opportunity to also clean up the bay a little, like hiding wires ...

Some good info.. I'm planning to purchase the same setup. According to alot of people, with the complete kit, you don't necessarily have to get injectors/MAF because the FMU will simulate the larger parts.

I know we have to be careful with our cast pistons in the stock blocks so I won't spare expense in this dept, I'm going with 42# inj. and Pro M MAF.. that's what was recommended by a few guys..

I think the kit does come with an MSD boost retard.

If you are getting the kit, then yeah, the extra $1k+ should be for a coil (cheap) boost and Elec FP gauges. The 255lph and the FMU should "suffice" for now. Add the power pipe up front, and youre still under your limit. Work on your tune with the extra $$, then see what you have left.

We could sit here all day and say you "need" this and that, but based on your budget, this is what Im going with.

I would take a look at the condition of your balancer while you have the crank pulley off.

If its in bad shape, replace it with a SFI piece. It will have deal with the added stress of the blower and expand the life of the #1 cap crank bearings.

That blower belt adds about 100lbs more stress to that 1st Cap. A SFI balancer will deal with it allot better then the stock balancer.

another extremely important gauge especially when running a power adder is oil pressure. so, my list would be.....

autometer boost gauge
autometer fuel pressure gauge
autometer oil pressure gauge
at least 30lb injectors with the t-rex, 255 intank, and fmu should be plenty(assuming the stock heads are going to stay, otherwise 42's)
77mm or 80mm pro-m
msd 6al (at the very least, btm recommended)
and the absolute most important.....A DYNO TUNE. no matter what parts you have, the tune can make or break (literally) you.

thats about it for my list of necessary accessories. have you made a decision on an intake and throttle body yet?

Ok, here's what I've come up with so far:

Autometer Ultra-Lite Boost gauge - $45
Autometer Ultra-Lite Fuel Pressure - $190
Autometer Ultra-Lite Coolant Temp - $150
AFM Power Pipe - $250

I think with the rest of the money I'm going to get a new clutch and have the rear end rebuilt. That should put me pretty close to $1300 and hopefully run good. I will be using the FMU for stock injectors and the boost retard that comes with the Vortech kit. Unless my ignition isnt strong enough I'll keep it stock, because even if I do have to get a 6AL it isnt THAT much.

Its been suggested to me to just get a rail fp gauge and instead get a oil pressure for the cockpit. Is the rail gauge good enough, and how about an a/f gauge, worth it or no?

I have the $1300 to spend on parts, I'm not including the tune/install in my budget since I already have that money set aside. It WILL be getting a full professional install and chip burnt during the dyno tune. I want it fast, but I want it reliable just as much. :nice:

whoa.....what water temp gauge is that? mine was around $40 for the electric gauge.
