If it is a 5 speed, you should be able to just jump the two wires going down to the clutch pedal switch.

Why would you want to start an auto in gear?

Used to be an automatic and now has a stick in it. Have to bypass neutral safety switch to get it started since there isn't one anymore.

Ohh Got it now.

You need to find the correct 2 wires at the Transmission Range Sensor harness and connect them together. I had to do this to my Saturn when I swapped the auto to a manual.

I found this on CrownVic.net

- remove the auto-trans DTR (MLPS/ transmission range sensor) from the original transmission, plug into the harness, and leave in the Neutral position to allow vehicle to be started
-Note, this should only be used a temporary solution as the vehicle would be able to start in gear
-The sensor should be mounted so that it isn’t just loose and flopping around - otherwise it will get damaged quickly. ‘Zip-ties’ may prove useful as a temporary mounting solution.
-The vehicle will not crank with this sensor (MLPS/DTR) absent, so make sure you don’t forget to plug it in and move to neutral during initial testing
