C4 rebuild needed...can I reuse torque converter?

Will the little particles and crud up in the torque converter contaminate my new rebuild of my 1968 C4? Aamco is doing a rebuild. They say they will "check" the converter and only replace if I need a new one!

Opinions?

Thanks!

It depends on why your tranny failed... IMO I would want a totally REBUILT trans with no parts that can'nt be thoughly CLEAN and checked for wear. torque converters are welded together during assembly and not readily able to be checked internally(real racing converters are different but really cost!!) I would look at this as a oppertunity the set your stall speed for how you use the car! a stall converter will soften a race shift kit to make it easier on u-joints and diffs for regular driving and sooo nice when you punch it!!!!
