That's what I thought about injectors. I will be going with a custom ground cam. And the intake may be switched for a trick flow. That's not definite. But that's a pretty solid combo, and I assumed I would definitely need 24# injectors, and I planned on going with a 255 pump.

If you are going with a custom cam, I would get 30# injectors and at least a 75MM MAF. No sense in maxing out your injectors and it gives you room to grow.

^^ x2 on what Mike said.

Also look into a edelbrock RPMII or Holley SystemaxII. Best efi intakes for what you're wanting to do. I just sold all my stuff(80mm pro-m,30#inj,systemax intake, tfs 11r heads, custom cam). I didn't get to see the end results but the cam guy and dyno tuner I was going to use expected around 400hp and 11sec et capability while still being relatively mild/daily drivable.

Get rid of the U/D pulleys. They are not worth the 5 hp at 4000rpm in exchange for worse cooling and heating
Any aftermarket CAI is really just for looks as the stock airbox is a factory CAI. Add a k&N filter and it will flow just as well as a fenderwell unit. ( full disclosure I have ran afermarket CAI's on all my N/A cars as they look better)

Interesting concept on the pullies, but with a stock fan, I don't have cooling issues yet

Wow impressive. I was under the impression that with 30# injectors the computer isn't really capable. That true? I would like to get some driving possible without a tune.

It'll run "ok "without a tune but not "perfect". You'll leave a little on the table in the power, part throttle response, and possibly the idle depending on the cam and some other factors. The factory ecu is fine up to 30#ers but after that they have a harder time starting the car when cold and a few other issues. You could/should be able to get the car running without a tune but I would recommend eventually talking to someone about one. Stay away from BAMA chips etc and only go with a reputable tuner. Other options would be tuning it yourself with a mega squirt/quarterhorse/AFM PMS tuning systems. Initially more expensive but you can learn a lot about tuning your own car and not paying someone else every time you change something. Not for everyone but just a heads up if you are so inclined.

It is a plan to sometime get into a megasquirt, but not in the funds as of yet. Can't wait to tune my own car. I guess I'll have to see what route I want to go. Sounds like I could be making more power than expected.

has nothing to do with the fan. U/D pulleys slow down your water pump by 10-15%, making your cooling system work harder and less efficient. You won't notice it as much on a stockish motor.

If you get an aftermarket MAF "matched" to the injector size, it tricks the EEC by adjusting the MAF signal voltage. You don't need a tune for THAT issue. You MAY need a tune after an HCI swap for other reasons.

Well hopefully I can get some driving without tuning. It does sound like I would have some potential by switching intakes and going with bigger meter and injectors

I made one of these.I still have it under the work bench, worked great. You could build yours to seal up to the headlight area to pull in cold air there.

Nice! I really like that. Did you make it from sheet metal?

Yup sheet metal and some small angle riveted together for strength.

You could use aluminum would be easier to work with and can polish it.

My thoughts,
When you first convert the car, get a stock maf (someone will probably give you once for free) and run it with 19's and make sure all is good. I'm not saying go WOT, just get it to run and idle properly. If the maf swap doesn't go right it will be one less place to look for the problem, and trust me, people have problems.

Second, Look into an Anderson ford NA power pipe. Yes you are going to have to recut a hole in the engine bay, but if you don't and you build a heat shield and every hole is closed up, where exactly are you going to get the fresh air from?
You can get the one that goes into the fender right in front of the shock tower.

If you use the power pipe get an 80 or bigger pro m.

That's actually exactly what I wanted to do. As long as I can find a cheap stock MAF. I was hoping to get it running, then swap the cam injectors, etc. I'll look into the power pipe

I have a speed density 88 GT mostly stock with bolts ons including pullys. I was running a little hot even with a 160* thermostat. Put in a new water pump, alum. Radiator with royal purple and now in 60* weather it runs nice and cool, won't go over 160*. We will see how it is on hot summer days. In the next month I am adding a ported Cobra intake, GT40p heads with trick flow springs and 1.7 rollers, 255lph fuel pump, Cobra grill insert, and a bunch of other stuff. I plan on going speed density but supercharge at the same time so it will be big bucks for big MAF, injectors, computer, and new heads. That will have to wait till next year. Since we are both speed density I have to ask: how well did yours idle and run?

Interesting. I'm sure I'll have to upgrade my cooling system evenually. Mine surges in open loop when it's cold but once it hits closed loop it smooths right out. But it runs very rich at idle, and I'm getting tired of smelling like gas fumes everytime I drive the car, which is why I am converting. Car runs hard though that's for sure!!

For the same cost of the maf conversion you could do an aftermarket ecu.
That would allow you to do whatever you wanted to and remain SD. It's not an option if you have to pass inspections, most people don't want to program for the smog pump and egr but I could make that work if you went that direction.....

If you do, I suggest a mega squirt pnp unit. Or you can get a diypnp if your not scared to do some soldering it's not difficult.
I will extend the same offer to you that I do all other members here, I can help you tune the car. This system is even capable of Coil on plug or coil packs if that's your thing.

I still think the heat shield would work well you will pull in cold air from the headlight area, do you really want to cut a hole after all the work smoothing the bay?

He'll no I don't want to cut that up. I like the idea of getting air from the headlight area. I would love to do a DIY PNP bit I thought that would require lots more money than a MAF conversion. Last in looked anyway, that may have changed

You can build your own for 450ish.
That's what a few of us did, no maf needed never have to pay for a tune. Hell with an 80$ software upgrade you can get the tune close then let it auto tune while you drive.

The only other consideration would be the need for a wb. A good mtxl will cost 150-180$ on ebay.

No kidding. I thought a megasquirt ecu was like 800 or more plus the software and wideband sensors and modules. Please enlighten me. If I can do it that cheap, forget MAF
