I lock mine into 1st, manually shift it into 2nd by flicking it up to D, then going back down to 1 again to hold it in 2nd...then put it back up into D again. That technique, with my 150,000+ mile AOD is good for 13.7 passes...I can't complain! Never use OD for racing. If your trans will even LET you (mine won't)...it's bad for the OD band it will burn it out...and it slows you down big time too. The gear reduction is too much...AOD's have tall overdrive ratios, I think something like an 0.68:1
Btw, due to MASSIVE transmission slip, my 1-2 shift point is about 6400 rpms, and 2-3 is about 6200. Assuming the factory tach is correct. This motor is one rev happy SOB with these heads and the fairly high-lift cam + 1.6 rrs
