Ok guys, I've done alot of reading on this subject and Im pretty much decided on the Ed Curtis cam. Question though: What is the general cost for one of his custom cams for a 306/331 motor? For info purposes this will be a weekend fun toy not a dedicated strip machine. Would still like great low end with a nice lopey idle. The car is a 95 and I do not want computer issues. At least not major ones. I've heard that Ed can make a cam work real well in a 95. I am kicking around the idea of using the E cam from Ford, but after reading all the cam stories on here Im itching for some more info. Thanks for the help.
BTW: Forgot to mention this will be a N/A car with maybe some N2O if the warden/wife allows the purchase after the build. Oh, anyone reccomend a good machine shop in the Tampa Bay area. Going to need the block "hot tanked" and bored out. It's a 92 block w/only 60k miles on it that I picked up for $50.

A custom cam is going to give you the most usable hp than any off the self cam by far. Ed's cam run $325 If I remember right.

I really do like my cam Ed made for me. Working with him was great and he shared some good stuff as we talked back and forth about my car. I got all I asked for and more from him. You can see a baseline pull in my sig.

Lots of guys on this forum have used him and you'll find the details about the various combos if you search using his name.

A custom cam no doubt will be better than an off the shelf cam... Just the factor of paying the extra money to get one made.

Thanks everyone. Wow, that's a steep price, but for all the praise all you guys are giving I guess it's worth it. My best idea at this point will be a 306 w/Trick Flow heads as well as the upper and lower manifolds. This will be my first engine that I myself will be building and want to build something strong, but not to over the top. N/A im hoping, and I repeat hoping, for 260-285HP range.

Killer runs an ed curtis and we all know his success, but that cam that willie (allmotor-stangnet redsn95vert-corral) runs, the "Crower 514" that's an off the shelf cam right? and look at his recent success.

seems that some people have problems with the e303 but others love it???

i know whitedevil on here runs the Crane 2031 cam and that's a really lopey, mean sounding piece

If your rebuilding the engine and making it a 306, get a trickflow specific piston and shoot for around 10.5:1 compression. Be sure to upgrade the valve springs. I'd recommend at least an edelbrock RPM intake and the ed curtis cam will make good power with that set up. Use a 75mm TB and 1 5/8" longtube headers.

I have trickflow heads with an ed curtis cam and im getting ready to order another one, but something a bit more aggressive I'll be ditching my TFS street intake for a holley systemax II. Dont sell yourself short for about the same price you can have a LOT more than a weak ass 260-285hp. If you take my advice you'll be 310+ but more importantly, you'll have low 12 second potential.

yeah if i could do it all over again i might go with a FTI piece. Although my Crane 2031 has been a great cam so far. Im pretty happy with the power i ahve made. But in 06 when i graduate from college im going to be moving up to a 347 combo and you can bet there will be an FTI cam in that thing.

Grn92LX,keep me in mind when you wanna get rid of your TF stuff and maybe the cam.
WhiteDevil, is the Crane2031 a "plug and play" install on the 94-95's??
Once again guys, thanx for all the help. Wade

Yeah i have zero computer tuning done what so ever. I just put it in with the heads and intake manifold. and turned it over. Those are the rwhp number i put down too. On my only two pulls. It idles good, much lopier than stock, but there isnt really any more surging than what i had with the stock cam.
