first off, i would like to say that i would have searched this topic, but the search dosen't work that well if u ask me. I was talkin to a guy who said if i put an e303 cam and cobra intake on my mostly stock motor, it would make a big difference, even without heads. The reason i would want to do it is because i drive 70 miles a day on my stang. I have an opened up exhaust, and i realize the stock heads will be a bottleneck. What about just switching to a cobra intake? what kind of increases can i expect? i am on a limited budget and need my car to be reliable. It is so painfully slow, even with 3.55's, new tranny, headers, exhaust and pulleys.
i need some rice beating power.

You will probably get a nice gain from the intake but I'd wait on the cam... you want to match that with your heads as well... the stock cam is actually pretty decent until you modify the rest. The Cobra intake alone should net you like 20-30 horse, I'd think. Just get a bigger throttle body and MAF to go with it.

well, here is what happend to me
ran 14.7 with h-pipe flows k&n hurst shifter and everything else stock, even 2:73's

then i added a cobra intake, 65mm tb, and an e-303 cam and i ran a 14.0001 still with stock 2:73's and nothing else changed, so yea it makes a difference, feels a lot better and sounds pretty mean

I have the same kinda problem, I have a 93 lx with full exhaust, underdrives, and someothers but looking to find something else. So when you say intake, you mean upper and lower or does it matter? I was thinking about having tmoss port a lower for me but would i get any good out of just getting a better upper with tb and maf?

well, most people tell me that i should just get a commuter. most of my friends with stangs have a different daily driver. but i like to drive it every day, except for now cause the a/c dosen't work and it's been over 100 the last week. but if i could still have it reliable and get it into the mid 13's and not suck gas too horribly i would be happy. i would assume it runs a low 14. cause i have raced newer gt's and came very close and they supposedly run 14.0's from the factory. but my car seems so sluggish.

Dont get the e303, there are better cams for the same price. Look around and try and find a 5.0 explorer motor..should be able to get one for less than 500 bucks. You can get heads, intake, throttle body, and still sell the block or other parts back to the junk yard. Those three components are basically GT40p or GT40series equipment. With those peices and the stock cam, you'll be quite happy. Just take the stuff to a shop to be cleaned...and have the Air sensor hole drilled in the lower intake. The price of a cobra intake is right around 300, a cam is 150ish, tb 75-150.. thats 500 already.
I 100% guarentee you will enjoy spending the money for Heads/Intake/TB moreso than just an intake and camswap. As of 3-4months ago I was havin problems with my setup, but I know was putting down at least 270hp and 307tq with that explorer setup, with a dyno graph...things are better now so from the seat of my car..i've gained some more hp/tq somewhere while killing bugs...
