Cam selection?

Check my current mods and take into consideration I'll be supercharging this thing down the road. E cam, B cam, or one if the Steedas? I'm not going custom, so don't recommend it. Thanks!

With your combo I would only look to Comp Cams Extreme Energy cams.

The E isn't a bad cam. It's definitely streetable, but still fairly radical for a little 302.. I'm running it right now and it's a nice cam. The powerband is pretty smooth and predictable. It's just old school tech....ie single pattern. I prefer a dual pattern...but that's a tad hard to find as I'm seeing skimming through magazine ads. Jeesh, I thought more people were doing dual patterns now.

Oh and FYI, no B cam for supercharging...bad choice. B has too much duration and overlap, and a short lift (.480 compared to the E's .498). B is for more radical N/A power...E is N/A or forced induction...

Oh and by the way...WE SHOULD START A ONE FOGLIGHT GROUP DUDE! I had an accident with a curb and a low/lying tree branch and it poked my left foglight out. It's still working, but it's broken off its bracket so its just physically laying in the hole...it points up high and blinds people cause it hits their rear view all the time, it's awesome. Hasn't fallen out yet.

CompCams XE270 - with a supercharger you want to help the exhaust side if you can (Neither the E or B does); your heads can take advantage of the greater lift; the supercharger will like the less overlap compared to the E or B. I'd leave the stock cam in and add the supercharger before I'd use the E or B. You asked for our thoughts on cam selection - there you go. I'm sure you'll be pleased with whatever you choose.

LOL! That's funny stuff about the foglights. Also, that's some goon insight regarding the cams and superchargers. It's actually the kind of info I was looking for. I hear the Steeda #18 is good for superchargers, and it's dual pattern. I don't know if it's emissions legal, though.

That's the point - nothing is guaranteed sniffer legal. The cam may have a CARB number, but once you put it in the car many other things contribute to whether it will pass the sniffer or not. There are MANY cars out there with CARB legal cams that won't pass the sniffer.

I think that swings way too far the other way. There are non-certified parts that pass, and there are certified parts that don't pass - but there are MANY combos that are so poorly matched that you couldn't 'tune' them past the sniffer no matter how long you tried. That's the point - there is little generalization that can be done when it comes to passing emissions tests. Heck, the rules vary so much from place to place -- that alone makes it difficult. Thoughtfulness in picking the pieces, care in assembling the package, dilligence in tuning -- these all assure the best chance. And even then, sometimes things go awry....

You make a very good point, man. I think the best argument is what we've covered right here: Pick a good match of parts, set it up properly, tune it up, and you'll be good to go.

You don't wanna be running 1 3/4 headers with a 2 inch exhaust, and Victor Jr heads. :D
