lookin into a cam... been lookin @ the TFS Stage 1 cam but am unsure... just bought a street burner upper/lower combo, lookin into the twisted wedge heads, gonna run 1.6 compcam steel rr's and maybe some 410s in the rear...

any suggestions as to what cam i should run? and does anyone have the TFS stage 1? hows it sound/handle?

thanks fellas :nice:

The TFS Stage 1 cam is very popular a long with the Steeda #19 Cam. Probably cant go wrong with either but if you have a trick flow intake then it will work slightly better with all the correct matching parts, Heads, Intake,Cam all from the same mfg.

oh man i sound like a n00b LOL... youll never know til u ask questions right?

ok so im open to opinions, school me on custom grind fellas... i know NOTHING about them.... the $325 is managable...

so it wouldnt be stupid to just throw on the upper/lower for the time being til i get the heads/cam?

custom would probably be best, but be prepared to spend a good amount of money.. probably twice as much as the tfs cam would cost (my guess.. i may be off).

in the mean time, here's a nice sounding set-up:

Yes, a custom camshaft will cost twice as much ($325 from www.flowtechinduction.com), but in my opinion, if you can afford it, well worth it.

The TFS-1 camshaft is a good budget camshaft, no doubt about it.

Depending on the grind of the cam you will probably have to upgrade the valve springs as well. Even with aftermarket heads with upgraded valve springs I still needed to go with better springs then what I had and to my surprise they were more then the cam was.

FTI Camshaft- $325

Valve Spring Package- $375

IMO Its not worth getting a custom grind cam until you have the heads and the intake taken care of then the cam can be ground specific for that application.

so basically, get the upper/lower intakes(done) get the heads, rockers, lifters, etc.... THEN have a custom grind cam built to suit that need...

now if i plan to get a s/c down the line, do i gotta get ANOTHEr cam suitable for that app?

Valve springs from Ed are not $375. I've bought 2 sets of springs from him over the years. My crane springs I did last summer to replace my broken FTI ps3 springs were $185 from a local machine shop. A custom cam is worth it if you know your goals.

The cam you have done may be fine with boost but you would have to talk to him about it if you go that route. Yes get all that done first b/c the grind is based on the current mods. If you got the cam first then put a bunch of aftermarket parts on it would defeat the purpose. I decided to stay N/A for quite awhile so I went with the custom cam route.

Im not saying ever application is $375 but for the cam he ground me this is the kit he recommended.
