Well as some of you know I have had a mother of a time with PTV and installing these cams but I finally got an idea and it worked. Turns out that whomever put the motor back together that had it before me...Ford, or some shop(I'll carfax it and find out who worked on it last)...put it back together 180 OUT!!! The car ran just fine with the stock cams and was pretty strong. I reversed these cams so I am now perfectly in time and the lope is very nice:nice:
Now for the tech...I installed Tim's tune from Modular Powerhouse and the car runs great except it doesnt seem to want to idle. It idles fine upon cold startup but once the engine is hot I have to keep her alive at stoplights. Anyone know how I can fix this?...(Im pretty sure its not the IAC)

I had the same problem when i put in my cams....what cams did you put in? I ended up having to set my idle for 1,200 so it wouldn't stall!! I also had it tuned multiple times by different people, I think it ended up being that the comp cams i had put in were made for the PI heads, at least i recently found out they were for the PI heads. I gave up on trying to fix it after about 700$ now im just doing the full swap :)

EDIT: didn't see the whole 2000 PI swap...sorry

That sucks man. I bet you cant even get that nice lope sound with the RPM's that high. My car idles (when it finds the idle) around 800rpm's and it sounds sweet.

Thanks for the e-sarcasm Killy.....the tune from modular powerhouse was just to get me by until my appointment with Lasota Racing. I am a full time college kid so time isn't something I have a lot of. However I did expect the car to at least idle correctly until I could set up a dynotune.

oh and Kilgore, great tech post you had there:notnice:

hotmustang the engine was times perfectly, except that the crank needed spun around one time...the motor was put together 180 out by whomever had it last. It ran great because it was just the stock cams. So I had no way to really tell short of sticking something into the engine to find out where everything was.
How do I open the throttle blade more, is that the screw that everyone says "dont ever touch":D

rugster:

Please do NOT adjust your t/b screw. You can and should fix the stalling in the tune rather than by touching the t/b screw.

Your VT Stage 1 cams are similar to mine (Comp 268H's) and your tuner (or you) needs some seat time to tweak the tune. One thing that will help is to increase the values below the idle RPM (and increase the values below the idle RPM even more than you might think). The isc_air_idle and isc_air_drive tables need to be increased by 10 to 15% over stock. Your tuner will datalog isc_integrator and dial in the isc_air tables in no time. Remember that drivability tuning takes longer to get right than a dyno tune/WOT tuning. At the moment, my car idles at 600 RPM in D and 685 RPM in N. Your engine should be able to idle at or about these values -- and the cams will be nice and lopey!

Good luck and post back with your results.

Chris

Yes its that screw :D .

And yes it will fix your idling issues for now by allowing the car to run, just SLOWLY turn the screw until you idles raises a bit. Just remember how much you unscrewed it (1/2 turn for ex) and place it back when you go to get it dyno tuned. Its a simple operation and I had to adjust mine when I installed the cams untuned....worked like a charm.
But I had to set it at idle...the instructions BBK sent, (put a different TB on the next day) were for use with an obviously stock car and didnt work quite right, had to open her up a bit more.

All it is is a patch so you can drive your car until its tuned. It wont hurt anything for the time being.

kilgore always talks ****.

My car with crower stg 2's idled fine. Actually its going through some bs idle problems right now.

But its with it idling TOO high. Even if the iac is unplugged and the air supply to it is cut off. and the throttle body is fully closed. IDK wtf it is

everything w/ my cams is perfect. the needle dosent even move when its idleing, even tho the car does shake, lope pretty good. must be a tune issue, btw i used hotmustangs install method (aka pull the covers/ bolt them in)

i was plannin to use hotmustangs method but I had press on cam gears and wanted to take the motor apart anyway to see whats inside. I have never really gotten to see exactly how everything works. Im going to pull the old blown motor apart and open her up to check out my spun rod bearing:nice: Should be a good learning experience. As for the idling issue should I contact Tim at modular powerhouse, I was just gonna wait until I go to the dyno, have them do my 3 pulls, A/F ratio, and maybe just some fine tuning and throw em some extra cash for the tune refine. This week is the good guys show and it seems to be running a bit better so Im gona wait a week or two because stalling or not, I want my car for cruising those days:flag:
