Can our cars run 14psi stock?

Ati has a 1 year warranty for a 14psi kit! I was thinking why not do it as long as a i get the 3 core intercooler upgrade and a decent tune why the hell not?
I was thinking of this combo...

Any intelligent guesses on power and torq numbers? If its not over 400 im gonna stick with the turbo i always ask about... :p
 
Go for it. 14psi with the virtually stock parts is nothing. I am making 11psi with all aftermarket parts except the cam. Thousands of people are running stock bottom ends with aftermarket H/C/I and 14-15psi making 500+rwhp. Remember it is not JUST the PSI that causes problems, it is the actual power production. You should make around 425+rwhp with the cooler.
 
Several points:

1. Hypereutectic pistons are not nearly as weak as people would have you believe. Detonate with forged pistons and they'll be just as dead.

2. The weakest part of a stock shortblock is the block itself.

3. And exactly what S/CBlack95GT said. It's not about the boost -- that's just a byproduct -- it's the power that will eventually break things (or a bad tune).

There's a local guy who runs 21 psi of turbocharged boost on his stock longblock 5.0 :hail2:. Best of 10.02 @ 136. It's all in the tune... :D

Yea I cant stress that enough. Those light little pistons are super strong for what they are. They may not handle a lot of power as long as forged pistons, but they can take a lot.
 
dont be afraid of the boost...boost is just a number...its the actual power that is created that you need to worry about....like Dave said forged pistons will be just as dead if you detonate...im willing to bet, that with a real good tune w/ a nice fat a/f ratio and some good cooling that you will most certainly crack the block before you blow up the internals....ofcourse this is assuming your internals are in good shape as they sit now.

The stock bottom end can take it, your head gaskets will go easily though. I would tune extremely carefully and conservatively.

That warranty doesn't cover ruined engine parts, just the usual manufacterer defects etc.

I wouldn't even consider running that without a WB O2 going all the time.
 
Response to your 14psi. I had an ATI 14psi D1

I had a 94 Mustang GT, running a 14p.s.i D1B procharger. The car had 3.55's, BBK 65mm Throttle Body, 74mm Bullet Mas Air Unit, 24lb injectors, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, 190lph intank pump, 255lph inline pump. Had the 3row intercooler.
I ran the supercharger for a little over 2 years as a daily driver. Put over 35k miles on it, and never had a problem with the supercharger, however after all the abuse for over 2 years, eventually the compression rings begun to give, passing blowbye through my dipstick tube. You will be able to run the car for about 30k miles on the stock rings but eventually you will need a rebuild. Also retard you timing, from 10degrees to 6, this way the car will not detonate. The car would ping at 4degrees on real hot days, so always listen for detonation, that's what saves your engine. So to answer your question, it'll work and have fun, cause i did with my 14-15 sometimes p.s.i.
I ran a best of 13.000 @111. I could never hook up well, and yes 13seconds flat not a 12.999, trust me I was pissed.
 
Try anderson for motorsports. They have a full kit pullied to 14 psi already and it comes with their afm powerpipe and PMS if you want it. I think its just over 4K and it comes with a tuning device. I think moneypit just got the PMS so he would be able to answer any questions about it better.
 
I'm all about making horsepower with what you have, however I don't think everyone is giving this person a good idea of just how tricky running 15 pounds of boost really is. I'm with Vibe on this one.

Sure, boost is a by-product, but last time I checked, it was measured in PSI (i.e. pounds per square inch), and CFM (cubic feet per minute). What a supercharger is doing is stuffing in upwards of 80% more air into one cylinder for the car to digest in one combustion cycle. The point that I'm trying to show here is that this is absolutely brutal on engine internals.

A centrifugal supercharger is spun to make power. There is a direct relationship between boost and RPM. Do not forget that a supercharger is belt driven, and runs off of the crankshaft.

Remember how I said that the internals take a beating? Well there is one main part of the motor that takes a beating, do you know what that is? The crankshaft. With every downward (power) stroke of the motor, the crankshaft is twisting. Remember how I said superchargers are belt driven, and run off the crankshaft? Remember how I said that crankshafts take a severe beating? You know that a centrifugal supercharger makes power in the upper RPMs? You know that RPMs grenade motors right? :D

I'm not trying to steer you away from a blower. I don't think that people were giving you the right impression. You have to be VERY careful. You MUST get the car tuned if you expect it to last. This isn't like a 6 psi kit where you just bolt it on and say "OK, lets go." Ok, I'm done. I think you got the point....
