Can someone explain....

The factory box is a cold air kit - remove the silencer and put in a K&N - works just as well as cold air kits on mildly modded motors. Check out the test -- http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2002/03/coldair/ The u/d's will add a few HP - dyno tests show it over and over. However, there are potential side effects, and the gains occur largely above 3500 rpm out of the range of most street driving.

You want to do something that will make a difference for about $100? Send that lower manifold off to tmoss and let him port it. It's the biggest restriction on the stock motor, and port job by someone who knows what they're doing (requires welding on the intake) makes a noticeably hp/torque difference throughout the rpm range without affecting drivability.

I give, UD pulleys are the most bang for the buck mod ever. Anyone want to trade their UD pullies for my Paxton? I need to make some real power.
you know what we need to help decide what mod is worth what?
where is our special buddy? he will straighten all this stuff out very quickly. :)

the 5.0 in the volvo is definitely one of the coolest things I have ever heard of!
ouch (to the title up top).

i thought the Volvos held together pretty well. there are enough older ones running around, it seems.

i noticed a bit more "pep" with the pullies on, but my car has no A/C, and the smog pump was gone, so i was turning very little to begin with, an when i bought a new alternator the pulley on the new one was actually really close to the same size (had to hold it to the underdrive one to see the minor difference) so i left it on and have had no charging issues

I'm so tired of "it's so easy to get a stock 5.0 in the 12's" I can tell you it that aint true. It was alot of work to get into the 13's. It takes alot of concentration/focus off the line just to go 13's w/ the motor untouched.
