When I started my car this morning I noticed a hissing sound coming from the engine. It sounds sorf of like letting air out of the tire. It sounds like its coming for right in the center of the engine. We checked for any air leaks but couldnt find anything.

Im wondering if its normal and I never noticed it before. I heard it from inside the car with the window down so thats why it seems like a new sound.

Unless it sounds different because my ears are still ringing from the Bon Scott AC/DC tribute band show last night :D

So if someone has a chance and can listen to theirs I would appreciate it.

It is more than likely a vacuum leak if you can hear it loudly. Use a piece of small hose and hold one end to your ear and prod around on the engine with the other. Find out where it is coming from. Most likely areas are
-injectors - possible bad o-ring
-IAC - bad gasket
-Hoses - 1 may be broken, burnt or disconnected
- Intake - check for loose bolts but be careful not to strip them. I have 2 that are stripped on the upper so I had to use some RTV to seal my intake 100%

Are there any new mods such as an IAC restrictior plate or upper intake? These would be good places to start. A hissing sound in the engine is a very broad area to answer over the net. Try to pinpoint it and I will surely help out.

My mechanic friend sprayed brake spray around to see if it would affect the idle if there was some sort of air or vaccum leak and no go. He didnt have his stethascope thing at home or anything else we could use so we didnt have any way to isolate it.

I dont think it contiues when I shut it off and Ill have to check about the revs.

If it was any kind of leak or bad seal wouldnt it affect the way it runs? It runs the same as it always has.

Plus I only have 70 miles left on my warranty!

You just answered your own question. Let ford deal with it. Make sure to call them about it NOW. If they know about the problem before hand they will still honor the warranty. I had that happen on mine. The warrany ran out as I was driving to the dealer. I called them as it hit 35,999.
