Car running hotter than it should..

Mike just try changing the water pump pulleys. Its four stupit bolts, Try that first and if it does not work then do the rad. I had the same problem when I had my under drive water pump pulley. It was fine for just sitting there but once I got going the temp would just start to climb. Rember the under drive pulleys turns everything slower. so even at higher rpms it is still turning the water pump slower then what it would be with a stock water pump pulley. Just try & prove me wrong

Is your radiator a 3 core copper/brass radiator? I have a 3 core Ford Motorsport copper/brass radiator and never had a problem with it until I installed an electric fan and now I will not stay cool in the warm weather. I have friends with the same fan I have and they are running a 2-core aluminum radiator. There cars actually run too cool. I just ordered a griffin aluminum radiator from summit yesterday and may change fans to see if this will help. Mine was creeping up around 210 yesterday in traffic with a 180 degree thermostat.

If you still have a/c, which I doubt, you can seal up the gap between the condenser and radiator. That will force the fan to pull more air across both of them, providing greater cooling efficiency. I am not a believer in the water wetter. I ran some in my car, and in my dads t-bird when they were getting a little hot. My stang was only heating up in traffic with the A/C running. The bird was heating up on extended hwy trips. Believe it or not, a new fan clutch fixed the bird, and a 3-core rad helped the stang. I put a taurus elec. fan in the stang and that did it. Thats just my experience, your car is very different. Our cars are mostly stock. Another new 3-core may do nothing for you, unless your present one is clogged. I dont think they will cover a clogged radiator under warranty. I will tell you, in case you didnt know this. Flush your cooling system before you put in another rad. I will also second, the go for an alum. rad. advice. And look for the highest fin per inch count. Your car is making alot of power, and with that comes alot of heat. Thats my .02. good luck to you.

Well, i can't find my recipt, so a new radiator won't happen today. I'll see if my friend has his recipt I Can borrow. I guess i'll try my stock pulley and see. I hope it fits with my belt. If that doesn't help, i'm gonna buy an aluminum radiator when I go back to work (among the many things i need to buy lol) I saw on summit, howe makes a nice radiator for $199, summit has a nice one too for $179, but it doesnt have a drain plug. Im not even sure if the howe one has one either??

"I dont think they will cover a clogged radiator under warranty."

Jerry, this is pep boys were talking about, all i would have to do is tell them car is overheating and it has a leak in the radiator, that my "mechanic" says is a bad radiator. Its too easy, I did that once with a pep boys 3G alternator too. :D

Alright, well my car is officially gay! I tried jay's suggestion of putting the stock pump pulley on, all was fine, car ran 180* until all of a sudden my idle got high, about 2k rpm. Once that happened my car got 200*. Now, that happened yesterday too, idle gets high and car runs about 200*. Gay, just gay! Anyway, last summer I replaced my tps sensor b/c I was having a high idle problem all of a sudden. That seemed to have done the trick, but also, it made my car run cooler. Thats right, replacing the tps made my car run cooler last summer. It went from 210* to 195*. I couldnt believe it, but both of my temp gauges verified this. That was before the elec fan. I am thinking its a bad sensor again (parts store) Any ideas? My radiator could also be not enough for my car, but I also have another weird problem that I believe is sensor related

having the same prob with my 95 3.8 bit ch, just finished a headgasket job, it seamed to run a bit on the warm side like RM when it hits M the fan kicks on, on a run she runs R,the gauge moves to dam much for my liking.

Glad someone else in this damn world has the same problem I do. I've done all the stuff, and my car does the same thing. The only way I can get the car to run where I'm comfortable with it is when I pull the stat completely out, and replaceit with a restirctor plate. When it's cold the car seems to run a wee bit hotter than it should, but in the summer, I'm blasting the heat! OH YEAH!!! I've pulled evr thing out in front of the radiator, tried new radiators, and short of swapping over to an aluminium unit, I'm stumped. Car's fast and all, but I noticed the problem began when I swapped on my AFR's on the LAST car. New block, all rebuilt, and same problem, in a totally new car.
