I just had my 01 cobra in for the 1-2 grind they are saying that it is possibly a burnt clutch or a pressure plate problem.. they said we can take out the tranny and look at it but if it is a clutch problem then it won't be under warranty. If it is a pressure plate problem it will be warrantied? What should I do here I don't want to get stuck with paying for a clutch replacement which I think they are trying to do so I would have to pay for it. Plus how could the clutch be burnt it only has 13000 miles on it???

Any help and I would appreciate it? Besides if the clutch and pressure plate were going wouldn't also be hard to shift into 3-4 and 4-5? Which that part seems to shift fine??

Thanks,

hmmm maybe its a bad syncro, I would go get a second opinion, I know when my clutch was going on my 95 ranger(2.3l) it was hard to get it into any gear, not just the 1-2 shift. That clutch lasted until 130k and I ragged on it, but I wouldnt expect a cobra clutch to last as long since it has triple the horsepower my truck did. Do you have the t45 or 3650? I think there was a recall or fix or something on the 3650. I would go talk to a transmission shop not associated with ford and see what they think.

Hmmm, I'm interested to see what happens, I've had the 1-2 clunk on both my GT and my Mach, the Triax has helped and it's not that apparent in warmer weather, say midspring through the midfall, but it gets progressively worse with the colder weather. I wonder what's gonna happen since it seems there's gonna be a flood of Stang owners taking their cars in for this fix.

Dude, I don't know where you live, but I would find me another Ford Store to work with. Even if it means traveling a few miles, it would be worth it. I just walked into the one closest to me, handed them the TSB, explained the problem, took a tech for a test-drive, and now my Stang is scheduled for repair in two weeks. I have dealt with dealers a lot, and it one will not do right, another will. Good luck and don't give up! :nice:

This 1-2 grind issue has been going on for a LONG time. There wouldn't be a 50+page thread on the T-3650 being such a load if it was all our clutches. Hell, print out the 50 page thread and take it to them and say "so, i guess all these guys have bad pressure plates and clutches too."

That reason doesn't even make sense to anyone that knows a bit about cars.

It's the tranny, go to another Ford dealership.

Well Ford customer service just called the service manager at my Ford dealer. I guess they said they would take this fix under advisement and take the appropriate steps to resolve the situation. So to me that doesn't mean they will or they won't fix it. So I guess I will wait and see what the dealers next move is?

if the clutch is fully disengaging, then thee is no way in hell they can blame it on the clutch, with the car in gear you should be able to let out the clutch a couple inches before the car rolls forward. if this is happening, then they shouldn't argue.

I LOVE MY DEALERSHIP!!!! they replaced a tranny of mine under warrany when i had 4.10's, moser axles (long studs) and even had my Driveshaft loop WELDED in!!! and they gave me a little grief and then pulled a string and got it fixed for FREE!!!! Shift fork was broken to hell, they knew i was putting parts on it with the intention of Going to race it, (but track wasnt open yet at that time in the spring) they treated me very well and I will keep buying cars there as long as they have that same "cusomer first" attitude.

they still have to do the TSB fix. **** them. Tell them to do it or you'll report them to the ford customer service hotline. I'm sure the dealer doesn't want that to happen. Wear a big muscle shirt saying "guns don't kill people, i kill people." i'm sure they'll get the point.
