My car won't idle.

The timing is on 10 right now and im sure of it.

But it won't freaking idle. It dies at 1,000 rpm. It back fires, an i have fouled 2 sets of plugs.

It sucks because i have been working on it for 2 months an finally get it to start, but i have to hold the gas down because when i let go of the pedal it dies.

The plug problem, should i run a hotter plug, because now i have bigger fuel injectors and fuel pump should i run a hotter plug so it run better.

at 1100-1000 it will start to pop an stuff an then die.

Any help

by the way its a 331 stroker, all egr stuff gone, smog an a/c but i have a chip.

What are all the new parts you installed?
Are you sure the dizzy was installed on the compression stroke? if on the exhaust stroke, it can run like you describe.

My step dad said it was on the compression stroke. He checked it a few times, with the number 1 cylinder. He could be wrong its possible, but not likely. For this instance lets say he is correct.

everything installed.

GT-40 Aluminum Heads - Ported
Typhoon intake Ported
Granatelli MAF cal for 24# injectors
Cold air intake
Comp cam i believe it has a 530 something lift, not 100% sure on the lift, but duration is 230, at 50 its 280 ex is 284 lope is 110

have comp cam lifters/rockers/double springs/push rods
Moroso 7qt oil pan
short throw shifter
255 tfs fuel pump
373 gears - not installed yet
24# injectors
BBK equal length headers/xpipe/2 chamber flowmasters

Block has been bored .30, has a 331 stroker kit

and i have the eliminator chip from JMS Chip performance

I would go back to being sure your dizzy is not out of phase. It takes 10 minutes to restab it.

I'd be inclined to pull the chip if you are satisfied that the distributor is in correctly. You should also be concerned about washing the cylinders if excessive amounts of fuel are being dumped. You might check the oil for contamination.

its not a butt load, but enough to smell it an cause some issues.

We have checked an check an rechecked an redid everything with the distributor

Why would i want to pull the chip, i had it programed to my settings.

Is it possible the Chip i got from JMS is causing the problems. Maybe i put it in wrong, or the chip was tuned wrong or something.

Toyman i am slow at times, i didn't understand what you meant by pull the chip

I meant to suggest that the Chip from JMS should be pulled to see if that was the source of your problem. I would think that the PCM (w/o the chip)should be able to handle a start and idle. The chip may be at fault or the install may be bad (bad contact or ??)

I will try that tomorrow because i really don't know what to do.

My plugs are blacker then hell, have went threw 2 sets of plugs within 10 minutes of the car being on and or trying to be started.

If its not the chip the only thing i can think of would be a bad vacuum leak.

Since i took out the a/c, smog and egr, i an did the clip that held on the red, green and whatever color it was vac lines.

i have a vac line running to my fpr, which is coming from my intake elbow.

then i have that plastic 3 pvc tube thing running out of my valve cover, which part of that is connected to that solenoid located near the firewall on the passenger side.

I just don't know anymore. If tomorrow i can't get it to run, I will be taking it to a shop. I don't want to, but not other choice.

Why would i do that. I am asking because i don't know. My intake is not stock, its a typhoon intake.

Where would i look, what do i look for.

I am open to any an all suggestions.

My car won't start without holding the gas down, can't get it to idle, my plugs are blacker then poo, an it backfires an pings, and cant keep it running once it started, once u take the foot off the gas it dies.

Why are you refusing to accept the idea the problem may be with the chip. Just pull it and see if the idle issue disappears. It's a 30 minute task start to finish.

i was going to pull it, but then right before we figured out the problem.

For some odd reason my firing order was different then stock. The Cam sheet had a new firing order, changed the order, the plugs, put gas in an when i turned it over gave it some gas started right up.

Still idling like crap, its purging or whatever you want to call it, its going from 1500, down to 1000 to 500 to 1500, and can't take my foot off the gas or it dies. But atleast it starts every time now.

does anyone know why the idling is doing that.

As far as i know i do, its for a 94 Mustang 302.

I've seen some people have surging issues on this website an mine sounds a lot like some of those problems, the rpm jumps when its under 1500, doesn't jump unless its under 1500rpm
