I found some interesting dyno data showing a comparison of different intakes
used on the same combo.

That got me to thinking

I might use the data to show some differences between a 302 with a carb
and what you see these days with fuel injection and long runner type intakes.

I took the data and mixed in with it .......
A GT40p head based combo I found from my files

I was a bit disappointed with the data from the carb combo
Why one would accept dyno results that start so high in the rpm band

Sure ... If you were gonna wind it to like 8 grand
but
We see nothing but typical h/c/i street car kind of rpm being turned here

anyway ... You can see what I love about FI & Long Runner Intakes
Good low and mid range torque

I know ... most here have no experience with old school carbs

You guys just don't have much appreciation for what you got these days
with the low and mid range being propped up by the newer technology.

Imagine how much more difference you would see if the carb pulls were
started closer to 2k as they should have been

Now ... To be truthful here ...........
the GT40 combo I selected does have better than typical results :Word:

I wanted to use one with an aftermarket intake and cam since the carb
combo has the non oem intake and custom cam

I just felt it more fair that way as opposed to selecting one with the
typical oem Cobra intake and e-cam

Here you go ... Enjoy

Back in the day when the Edelbrock RPM kit was king a good friend of mine had his car running 13.2 on street tires with it, then he gets this wild hair to pull the intake off and switch to carb. So off comes the intake and EFI fuel system ,dis and MSD for a Holley blue pump, Eddy RPM and 650. Anyways the end result was 3 tenths and 4 mph over EFI, he had a legit 12 car now. Don't know where that came from just thought I would throw that in there, bye now!!

No ... I got nothing like that

I think the Lightning had a 351 for a few years

Maybe you could focus in on them for some data

When you go that big with the cubes
you move over in a category ..........
that makes the focus of this thread become a moot point

My reason for posting up this stuff was to show the benefits of Fuel Injection,
Long Runner Intakes, and PCM Controlled fuel and spark over older technology
Carbs and Points in the dizzy.

The tiny 302 cubic inch sbf gets such a nice and much needed torque bump
from the newer technology

You see ... with Big Cubes ... you just don't have to be all that concerned
with lack of torque down low :Word:

This story doesn't sound far fetched to me at all

Just two very different applications ... as I see it

When you talk Strip or use a Time Slip to measure achievements ..........
Your focus is most likely gonna be on the peak

When you talk Street Car ... Well ... When I talk ... Street Car

My focus is more on low end and mid range .......
As opposed to peak

Neither of those combos is wrong ... Just Different
