Carb Problems - I'm About to Call a Pro

That's great! Aren't problems like this a pain in the butt? The biggest problem is that you often don't even know where to start. Is it gas or is it electric? Why does it only have a problem sometimes? I agree that this site is a very valuable source of information on a huge range of subjects given by some of the most knowledgeable people there are.

Congratulations! Feels great doesn't it?

Not to burst your bubble but I want to make sure that you realize you just essentially hot wired your car, right? I mean, it is not good to leave it set up like this at all, eventually it will fail and the coil will burn out. Right now you don't even need the key, just connect the two first posts on your solenoid and the car will start that way too. This was only to trouble shoot not to operate.

You probably already know this but since no one else mentioned it I thought I better say something just in case.

Good luck with pertronix and harness sounds like you are well on your way.

Yeah, your car has a resistor wire that draws down the voltage to the coil. The wire runs for a distance from your ignition switch out toward the coil. You are now giving your coil the full 12V, which will become a problem.

Nice call Pakrat.

Yes diconnected and tracing the short now. Put the harness on and not it must be igntion or on other side of firewall - but I should be able to take it from here (famous last words). It does feel great!! It was weird cause it started happening right when I put new carb on - I was convinced it was a carb problem and was chasing that. Tahks again..

Yes. Accessories work luckley. Trying to trace wire to find resisitor - not as easy as I thought have not found it yet - any ideas where to look? Since I'm installing the flame thrower sounds like I need to bypass resistor anyway. Was hoping to trace it down though - thought I would hook electric choke to wire. Thanks again.

Well gutted the main harness - that pink wire rain thru the whole thing - I wimped out trying to bypass it and traced a wire from the igntion instead. Will hook everything up in am. Hopefully this is the end of this saga. thanks
