Caring for a Pony that accumulates low annual miles?

I've had no luck getting guidance at another mustang forum on this subject, so I thought I would try here. I usually get flamed for having such low mileage on her.

I'm looking for suggestions on how to keep it in mint condition.

FWIW, my vehicle is a custom ordered 2007 Mustang Pony Package. In 18 months I've put 521 miles on her. It's never been in the rain, nor has it ever seen a water hose. I go over it with micro fiber cloths every week. The engine is ran a minimum of 30 minutes every 2 weeks and I put at least 5 moving miles on her monthly. Every 6 months I change the oil and put Meguiars Professional Detailer Silicon-Free Dressing on the tires. It is kept in a garage with temperature extremes of 45 to 80 degrees F.

honestly it sounds like u dont need advice from us..

must be hard not to drive it, honestly..

if my car is clean and its there I have to go for a drive, esp w/ a heavy foot having 4:10 gears.. mmm

Why keep it so mint? Is my only question. Don't people buy cars so they can drive them? I mean if it was a $70,000+ GT500KR or something and i wanted to show it i would understand a little more??
but a simple pony pkg...you could have it 30 years from now and the value might be around $15,000 or something with only 20k miles?

I do know a guy who bought a 98' vette when they came out, had it delivered to his house and rolled off a truck (.01 miles on it) into his garage and he prepped it and built a wooden box around it in his garage and didn't plan on driving for 10 years. so that way he could keep the miles low and make it a collectable. To this day i don't believe he has even started it up yet. Still hasn't been driven.

P.S. he drives his wifes 99 vette all the time when she isn't.

I wonder if there is any side effects to doing so? seals drying up corrosion form sitting and such.

i believe its best practice to always run the motor at least once a week if your car sits for extreme amounts of time could have some effects i believe.

I agree with the above post, i wasnt trying to bash the guy just felt like it was an honest troll post.

Also yeah a vette does have normally a higher holding value price than a mustang but they also cost more up front as well.

its not worth not driving it and keeping it in mint to maybe someday make like 5,000 more or 10,000 more but if its a V6 its not worth much anyway their are like 600,000 of them in FL.

BTW, here are a few pictures of my Pony off the dealer lot. It's so easy to be a poser when just taking pictures at the dealer

No big deal, BUT you are the first forum member that I've ever seen that has the Interior Sport Appearance Package.

It was the number 1 reason I had to special order my Pony. OMG

Don't you just love the black dash and aluminum pedal covers. There so retro.

Actually, the dash is the same charcoal as most of the 'stangs out there.

I do like retro. I saw the '64 1/2 Mustang on display at the New York World's Fair in 1964. The 2007 is the first 'stang I've ever owned, and I'm liking it!

I only wish I could baby mine that much. I have made it a point not to go down any dirt roads and such to help prevent any crap build up where you can't see.

Car is in fantastic condition and looks great. I'm curious why you are keeping a non-special edition mustang (don't care if its a GT or v6) with such low miles, but to each his own.

I do recommend getting the car up to operating temp at least every other week. With how little its driven, I'd also be careful of getting flat spots on your tires. I don't know how long it takes for them to develop, but if you drive it that litte, storing it on jack stands may be a decent idea.

Yes you are doing an excellent job of keeping it up, hower it seems to me that you are wasting alot of good oil, there is a crisis you know ha ha. Changing oil every 6 months when you only drive the car 5 miles a month is a bit extreme. Throw some mobil 1 in it and change it once a year, you would still be wasting good mobil 1, but it wouldn't sound so crazy ha ha. Your car will be one of those we see on ebay in 20 years where bidding starts at 50 grand, or we catch it on Barret Jackson.

You are doing a good job but I also do not understand why you are not driving it on a regular basis. As was said, and this is not intended as an insult, this is not a rare or valuable car. My best advice is to drive it on a regular basis. That will keep it in good condition.

Ya'll wont believe me, but my GT has only 1100 miles on it and I bought in Jan. of 2007.

I feel what you are saying OP. I keep the oil changed, drive it about 10 miles a week. I do wash and wax it fairly frequently because I'm constantly doing some type of mod that requires a dyno tune. The dyno tune always seems to kick up some black crap all over the rear of the car. Plus I love to wash and wax the ride!

Never seen rain as well ha, ha!

I had a 2003 Mach 1 I bought new and only drove 1,000 miles in a year. I had some kind of idea it might be worth something someday. I also did not want to modify it. I was paying a lot to insure a car I rarely drove and I really wasn't happy. I finally sold it. I now have a 2007 GT. I have modded it some and am not afraid to drive it. I am much happier. I would like a Shelby, though, but am afraid the same thing would happen that did with the Mach 1.
