the wait of 3 weeks was worth it. It pulls like a RAPED APE!!!!!!!!!! and its not even tuned yet. The throttle response is instant and it just keeps pulling and pulling through the entire RPM range. I'm very happy w/ the combo just from driving it. It has a few low idle issues that need to be tuned out. Over all I'm quite happy. Now for the bad news. Wont be any track times tonight and I'm not sure when. It has an oil leak coming from somewhere, I assume the rear main seal. My friend that did the install noticed it but it did not do it again when we test drove it when I went to pick it up so we figured it may have just been one of those things. I got home after doing a few errands and I could smell the oil burning before I even popped the hood and when I did a big puff of smoke came out and instantly I could tell it was more then a few drops here and there. You can see from the pics its got a good drip going on. So now Ive got the car all done as far as phase 1 and this happens. Enjoy the pics, it looks pretty bad ass i will say that :nice:

And now the big dissispointment. You cant see the oil to well in the first pic but you can see it pooling up unde the first bolt.

For those of you who have been following this I'll answer a few questions that were not known until now. The Trick Flow R intake did not need the 1" spacer to clear the Valve covers, I was amazed but I wont be losing any low and TQ B/c of it now either. The Air filter does hit the under side of the hood, you can see how its kinda squished but its ok over all.

Hes going to try and get the car back in tomorrow and on the lift to see exactly where the leak is coming from. Its really weird. He test drove it a few times yesterday all through the RPM range and up to operating temperature and it did leak some, but then today when we took it out it didn't leak at all but we did not drive it all that much I don't think it was fully up to temp. When I drove it home I had been driving it awhile and as soon as it was parked it started leaking. It was not leaking when I took it into the shop and now all of a sudden it is. Hopefully its not the rear main seal but should know more tomorrow.

Looks bad ass...silly question, but possible leak sources that maybe were just overlooked:
PCV grommet/valve
Valve Cover
Lower Intake Gasket

I would think if it was the rear main, it would leak, not just sometimes. Keep us posted....glad it pulls hard!

I will, hopefully its nothing serious. I dropped the hammer in second gear after shifting down from third and its just instant TQ, I didn't even redline it b/c I thought the rear tires were going to break loose even w/ the Nitto's on it

Mine leaks just as bad if not worse than that... and I'm still running it. I've never had it not leak on me, and I've even used the teflon rear main seal that isn't supposed to leak.

It just bothers me b/c I had no problems before and now its puking oil. I don't want it leaking oil like this.

Nice man, keep plugging away at it, you're so damn close don't settle!

Adam

Just a minor set back

Heres how it looked after sitting all day.

I would not worry to much over the oil leak. My rear main has leaked almost from the get go...70psi cold start with 35 warm idle and anything off idle warm around 65+ and a factory style rear main no shock here. I want to fix it but after going over to make sure nothing else was leaking I figure with that much pres. something will leak.

I figure I will replace it when I pull the t5 for either a clutch replacement or to upgrade the t5 to an astro gear setup.

not for the time being.

I cant believe some of you guys have oil leaks like this and just run it like that lol

I am a freak about trying to keep things clean and leak free. It sucks I have to run a pre 90 oil pan...the only one I could find when I was building my motor had a dent right at the rear oil plug (leaks more than the rear main). I was in a bind and I did my best to stop it but it still leaks mostly just "damp" around the bell and rear/back of the pan (both leaks take all winter to leave 1/2 what you have in the pic BTW).

The rear main...unless it starts shooting oil out I will replace it when I replace the gears/clutch. Last time I broke 3 snap-on sockets (one an impact socket) getting off the rear DS bolts off, I hate the H-pipe removal, and pulling out the t5 by myself again is fairly low on the needs to get done list. Not as bad as putting in a AOD by myself without using a jack but not fun.

Was the lower intake off the car during these new mods? If so check the area between the inatke and the block for a leak there, as well as the PCV valve area to ensure it is in the lower intake nice and snug... I had to put tape on mine for a tight fit. Pushing oil out could also be the by-product of higher cylinder pressures... due to generating more HP.

Oh, and I've put in over 5 rear main seals in my car over the year and they have all leaked. I've put them in dry, I've put them in with "the right stuff" (RTV) and they still all leaked. This one leaks worse than the others, but when I pull the engine for the head swap I'll replace it then.

My rear main got pretty bad coming home from Carlisle, I can't stand it, I have to fix it.

Nice to see Im not the only one w/ a leaky car :D. Yeah Paul the lower intake is new, swapped out the cobra for the TFS-R

go over the VC hardware again.

mine started to leak after the head and cam swap and thought it was the rear main seal. and it turned out to be a loose VC on the passanger side

BTW a vid of going through the gears would be nice.

I tried to get one yesterday from in the car but its hard to hold the camera and shift at the same time b/c I had it pointed at the instrument cluster. I'll give it another shot today. Not much traffic where I live so I can do a pretty good rip though a few gears

It does not appear to be coming from the VC, PCV or the back of the intake but its hard to tell from the angle I was looking at, if he can get it into the shop today and on the lift should be able to tell where its coming from.

The other reasons I really want to get this fixed is that I plan on getting it dyno tuned and I dont want to be dripping oil all over the place while Im there, also what if whatever is leaking decides to let go more then it is now such as if I was at the track and oil got on the rear wheels then it smacks the wall, not really worth it to me.
