i think you are hung up on this amp thing and its not the issue. if the f150 unit that was in there was working on 2 plugs then he only needs those two for this deck to work. ford has had some funky odd ball connectors, ive done tons of them and have had to go back for a new harness quite a few times. have you been pulling on the wires at all? done anything with the speakers? im wondering if one of the speaker wires has worn through causing a short on a pice of metal in the car. that would put it in a protect mode asap i would think.
Are you using a test light? Did you bump 2 wires together by accident? I have had that exact same thing happen to me before. I personally think you are wiring it wrong (could be new wires spliced into the car and different colors) and are frying your stereos.
I haven't read through the whole thread, but if you're convinced its not the amp did you try:
1) where's the popping coming from? Front left? Front Right? Rear left? Rear Right?
2) If its coming from the front, disconnect the fronts and try hooking the just the rears up. If the rears work while they are plugged into the "rear" on the deck, try hooking it up to the "front" output on the deck.
If someone already posted this, i apologize. If not, give that a try and let us know how it goes.
Wirings a pain, but doing it half-ass is even worse, and with sound it will cause interference if you dont connect them properly.
I agree though, now that you've got problems, git er working then go back and solder your connections.
Sup ryan, This is what you need to overcome this task,
1 test light, (check all fuses in the fuse panel, if some dont work turn on head lights etc)
fuses
wire nuts(they help eliminate the possibility of a loose wire or something grounding out)
Thats it, your all home free from there..
I havent kept in touch with this thread much, But i read that another head unit worked on your car.. is this true?
Did you try your head unit on a friends car?/ did you sniff out the back of the head unit, something could be fried
Has your cars wireing been tamperd with at all? ( i know in my car, the head unit was shorted out because the guy wired the radio to the harness off the alarm)..
Use process of elimination, first see if your radio works, take it to a store and ask them to test it,

I had the same exact thing with my JVC headunit, then I put my kenwood in and guess what?? Same thing!!! Obviously if the wiring is correct, the stock HU works, but several aftermarket ones don't work you have the amp still hooked up or are too lazy to wire it correctly.
That funny looking U-shaped bracket you're seeing on the tranny hump is where the amp would have been, if it were still in place. It's gone, obviously, but the connectors for it *SHOULD* still be in there somewhere, probably tucked up under the dash somewhere. Keep looking, dude. You'll find it...
