I just changed out the four 5x7 speakers that came with my Shaker 500 with some pioneer 3 way, rear and 4 way, front. All I can say is what a difference in the sound. The rear deck speakers are the exact same as the ones in my F150 with the basic sound system, cheap.

I have couple of obsevations/complaints about how Ford designed things though. First could they have put the rear speakers any futher back, you only have about 2" between the window and the screw. Second, Ford put 9 screws and 2 bolts to hold the front door skin on. My F150 has 3 screws and 2 bolts, which you dont have to remove to change the speaker, just pop a panel.

Can you tell me how you got the rear speakers out? We just bought some Pioneer 4 way 6x8's for the rear, and need to change them out. Glad to hear you had a good experience. I have the same speakers in my 04 Solara and love them too.

All you need to do is gently pry up the speaker grills on the back deck. You will find 4 torx screws holding them onto the deck. Once I removed and replaced the factory speakers, I used 1x10 bolts, lock rings and washers in order to make it much easier to tighten them back down. I also found that in doing so I resolved the issue of "vibrations" from the back deck.

What size speakers did you replace the 5x7's with?

Most 5x7 replacement are actually 6x8. I have found that the 5x7 / 6x8 all fit into the factory holes with no modifications needed. Again, other than the intial bite of having to get the factory screws (torx) out, the window clearance is really tight, it was a fairly simple job, with great payback in sound quality!
