changing spark plugs soon

anything i should know in advance? also im doing oil, so should i change the filter? it looks kinda new but i have one, i just need to get anoter quart to do it. i got a little catch pan that holds 6 quarts, a socet that fits the plugs, and a socet extension that bends to a 45 degree angle or whatever. thanks.

DO change the filter. FL1A is my choice.

I like to use a box end wrench on the bottom drain bolt or else I end up with oil all inside my ratchet.

Dont forget the front drain. Good luck.

For plugs, a ratchet, long and short wobble extension and an air tool swivel universal joint are what I use.
I like to put anti seize on the plug threads and dielectrical grease in the plug boots. Dont forget to check the gap on all the plugs and gap accordingly (in case a plug got dropped at the store, etc). Spec is 0.052- 0.056"). And Autolite 25's are for a stock application. I stay away from Platinum plugs on a 5.0L EFI motor.

Put a drop of oil on the threads of each plug or use some anti-seize stuff if you have any.

the 1st time i changed my oil i got confused when only about 1qt came out... then i noticed the 2nd drain plug

this back plug (one closest to the passengers and drivers of the car is on the oil pan ? will i be able to see it okay, im sure im finding the front one but where is the back one? thanks for all the help.

Once the car is up on jackstands or on ramps you will be able to look over the oil pan and find the plugs. DO NOT DO NOT TRUST THE CAR IF RAISED AND BEING HELD ONLY BY THE JACK!!! if you don't have the jackstands or ramps save your self some serious injury and take the car to jiffy lube. Provided you do have the ramps/stands make sure you get that pan in position under the oil filter when removing it, remember it's full of oil and will make one god awful mess if the pan is not positioned properly. Also make sure to apply some oil to the gasket on the filter so assis prior to install. Gap your plugs at .054 or very close to with a plug gap tool, if you don't have one, spend the 5$ and get one.

Tighten the new filter till it is hand tight then just one 1/4 turn more. Makes it alot easier to take off the next time.

Some people fill the filter first, to prevent low oil pressures at start. This trich has always resulted in spilled oil for me.

If the filter won't come off and you have no way of getting an oil filter wrench (assuming you don't own one) you can drive a screw driver through the filter to help get it off. Use this as a last resort, cause its a major PITA if this one ****s up.

I always pull the coil wire off and crank the motor for 5-10 seconds to fill the filter with oil. Then i put the wire back on and start it

I see the future...I see a huge mess in your fathers driveway...Sounds to me like you could/should just pay the extra 10 and let a lube place do it, leaving the car on the ground is going to be a huge pain in the ass. No harm in it, I take the wifes 04 gt in to the 10minute place, and my truck as well..too much hastle.

the drain plugs are RIGHT THERE, you wont have a problem finding them

plugs are easy also. Make sure the plug is al the way in the plug socket before putting them in, failure to do so results in a broken plug.

When I did my first plug change on my 93, I had to remove the air tube from the throttle body to get to the back spark plug.
I don't do my own oil changes, $14.99 at goodyear and I'm out in about 15 minutes.

long story short. i drained the oil, took the filter off, and left the drain plug out so i could do the plugs and let the rest of the oil drain (i always do this) theni noticed my alternator wire looked loose, i wiggled it and the plug and electrical stuff fell off the alternator, it was really badly coroded. so i went to the junkyard got a new alternator, came back put it on, put the darin plug back on. and forgot about the filter cause of my little adventures. started it up, the oil light wouldn't go out. i said "WTF" so i get out only to find a nice big puddle of oil under the car. good times
