Changing struts-FYI

Guides on here say you can do it without an impact wrench. You can't. I tried everything from a big bar and a wrench to cutting the nut off. Either way you need the impact wrench.

It took me 5 trips to different stores to find an affordable electric impact wrench. Made life much easier.

FYI very important. Tokico HP struts have a nut that is bigger than stock struts. You need a special size not usually found on kits.

This install was stupid hard because of the impact wrench.

So where'd you find the electric impact wrench? What was the price on it?

Found it at Pep Boys. It was the goodyear rechargeable for $89. Saved my life.

I guess it's necessary if you're bolts are old/seized.
When I changed my struts/shocks at 26k miles, I was able to loosen them w/o any power tools.

Loosened mine for the spring install with just a ratchet and socket, and a small tube to act as a breaker bar...

I've done all the mods in my sig with hand tools. That nut was ridiculously hard to get off, but with an adequate supply of WD-40 and elbow grease, it came off with a wrench and large screwdriver through the slot to keep the strut shaft from spinning.

yea mine were the same way, i took off the whole assembly and brought it to a local shop where they had an impact gun

I just did it the other day with a wrench and screwdriver. I have air tools, they're just buried by all the crap for the bathroom redeco we're doing.
