Clutch does not feel right at all.

Got a spec stage 1 clutch in with rebuilt motor. Less than 100 miles since installation. First the pedal is a lot stiffer, moreso than I expected with the stage 1 clutch. Pretty dang stiff but I can live with that. My problem is taking off with a little clutch slip or especially backing up it gets a vibration that if you watch the car as your letting out on the clutch it will shake it some. Theres no denying it. Would this just be due to the clutch being new, or do I have a problem? I haven't heard any noises. The flywheel was resurfaced, torqued to 80lbft and the pressure plate was torqued to 22lb ft. Stock quadrant and cable is in use for now. In the immediate future it will be replaced. Could the quadrant be causing issues? Thanks.

No, the clutch drove perfect. As far as I know there were 3 dowel pins and they where there when I mounted the pressure plate. Going through the gears is just fine, if you downshift to 2nd you can feel it though if your slowing down. Downshifting to 3rd or 4th you don't feel it. It's most noticeable when attempting to slip the clutch though for take off or backing up. I looked at the sheet that came with the clutch and it said clutch chatter could be due to not being broken in yet. I think it has 60ish miles on the motor and clutch now. Should I just keep driving it for a little bit and see if it goes away?

Did you do the 450 mile break in? If not the clutch could be glazed over...
I have a stage 2 that requires that kind of break in. I assume that the stage one would be the same. Supposed to keep the rpm's low and not slip the clutch during that time.

I've had 3 spec clutches. 2 stage 1's and now this stage2. My first stage 1 was great. The second stage 1 they installed backwards. DO NOT SLIP THE CLUTCH! You need to be on/off these as you break them in! I dont mean to dump it everytime you shift but your not suppose to ride it either! And with it being hard to push the clutch pedal in, well maybe you installed it backwards or whoever instaled it did? When you snap (since its stock) the quadrant or you break the cable then i can almost bet 100% the clutch was instaled wrong! peace

It's getting a little better I believe. It's not super stiff, but it's tighter than I expected. Like my cousins spec 2 clutch. I installed the clutch myself, "FW-side" went towards the flywheel 100% sure. It still has a little chatter but feels like it may have mellowed out some. I haven't rode the clutch much at all, just enough to keep it from stalling or barking tires on take offs.

Also rpms have been kept pretty low, nowhere near WOT or high rpms yet. Trying to keep my motor together for a while. She has about 100 miles on clutch and motor now.

i just installed a new clutch net clutch & pp. and stock flywheel, at first it chattered some going forward,as well as downshifting and seemed worse in reverse. it just started getting better after 400kms, still getting some chatter /vibration in reverse, but im sure it will go away after its fully broken in

My spec stage II chattered for the first 500 miles or so. It got progressively better as the break in miles added up. Now there is no chatter at all. Im sure yours will clear up as well. Break in time is extremely important. good luck

The vibrating you are feeling is clutch chatter. I just installed a king cobra clutch and on cold start up it chaters like crazy in 1st and reverse. All I do is slip it a tiny more and it stops it..As far as I know this chatter is fairly normal on new clutches.

I have about 50 miles on my new clutch and it hardly feels stiffer than the old clutch. It's still nice and easy but this is with the stock cable. Maybe I should get a new one and the adjuster?

Did you installed a new TO bearing? How did the pivot ball look on the bell housing? The cable could have something to do with it, but I wouldn't look at that first. I hate aftermarket quadrants, I like the stock ones.

New pilot bearing, clutch disc, pressure plate, and throwout bearing was used. Stock bolts and the flywheel was retained (albeit resurfaced.) 250ish miles on her now and it's getting better slowly. It used to chatter with any sort of clutch slip at all no matter how little you done it, but now it just seem to want to do it in certain positions of the clutch. The pedal is either starting to loosen up some or I'm adjusting to it also. While I'm getting better at it, I still like the stocker better. The way this clutch grabs you can forget using it to control the launch, so I guess I'll have to figure out a new technique lol.

I had been having my doubts of shifting hard with it when the time came because it felt like it would throw my timing off, but today it just felt like it finally clicked. So hopefully I got her nearly dialed in.
