Is it possible to install trans into the bell without the clutch fork to pivot ball retainers engaged behind the ball.
Reason I ask is the fact that my fork can move in and out about a quarter inch or so. The pedal travel does feel fine though.

I've seen people bend the clip that holds the fork in during installation. You can look in the side where the fork comes out with a flashlight and mirror or a scope. some movement is normal but you want to make sure the throw out bearing and the pivot end are secure and riding where they should.
