Hey everyone, I'm having what i believe is clutch problems. I have a fairly new spec stage 2 clutch system with a tremec 500 on my 91 coupe. The problem i'm having is i have to push the clutch all the way to the floor to get it in to gear or it will sometimes grind into gear. It mostly grinds when i put it into reverse if i don't have it all the way to the floor to the max. Someone told me it could be the clutch cable or a throw out bearing but im clue less. It drives fine if i put the clutch pedal all the way to the floor and go's into gear but it's when i don't push it to the floor it's wanting to grind gears. I have around 5,000 miles on my transmission and clutch setup. Also has a stock clutch cable that is not adjustable. I think it has too much slack in the clutch cable line but i'm not %100 sure, Anyone know what this could be? Thanks!

I would spend the bucks to get an adjustable clutch cable. The stock clutch pawl is made of nylon plastic and I'm sure your new clutch is too much for it - they will flex!

At least you don't have to remove the entire transmission to install a new one!

Good luck!

Thanks Clay! So you think that's what my problem is? Is that why i have to push it all the way to the floor to get it into gear? Thanks alot Clay, If that's the problem i'll go ahead and get a adjustable clutch quadrant kit from BBK.

Try pulling up on your clutch pedal to see if the auto-adjusting quadrant, well, auto-adjusts. It should make a ratcheting sound.

If that doesn't work, you probably need a new cable. The aluminum quadrant is a good idea too, but you'll need a firewall adjuster for it. (because it eliminates the adjustable stocker).

I bought the firewall adjustable cable and you know what? I still crawl under my car and adjust the darn thing! Old habits are hard to break!

A friend recently replaced just his clutch/pressure plate on his '85 capri. He ran into the same problem - the stock cable seemed too long...anyway, he got the adjustable one and voila, problem solved! I did forget to mention how the self tensioner works (see above)...did you try that? Just wondering...it may save you a few bucks...

BTW, the firewall adjustable cable is more expensive but keeps you from having to crawl under the car (if only I could remember that!)

Cheers!

Clay
