My '95 Cobra (stock original clutch, 15k miles) is having some clutch issues and I could use some input from people with more experience.

My clutch pedal was engaging close to the top of the pedal travel with the stock cable/quadrant. I tried resetting the automatic adjuster but it didn't change much. I installed a Steeda adjustable cable/quadrant kit, but I was not happy with the loose fitting quadrant. After reading some scary posts about the adjustable cables breaking, I replaced it with a Maximum motorsports quadrant, a UPR firewall adjuster, and Ford factory '93 cable. The fit from this combo is much better, but the clutch still engages at the top of the travel with less room on the pedal to slip it during a launch. I tired loosening up the firewall adjuster, but it seems like this only lowers the pedal height. Also, my clutch seems really grabby cold and then becomes a little bit more forgiving after driving for a couple minutes.

This is my first mustang, so I don't know exactly how the clutch should feel in an SN95. I am used to driving cars with hydraulic clutches where the it engages closer to the floor or around the same height as the brake pedal, where I prefer it to engage for normal road driving. Two of my friends have suggested that my clutch is warn out. I've only had the car for 3 years, and I don't know how good the original owner was at driving a stick! I don't see any slippage at full load in fifth, plus the mileage on the car, makes it hard to believe that the clutch could be shot.

What do you think? Is my clutch going bad or is this normal for a mostly stock T5 SN95? If you think my clutch is history, any suggestions on a replacement?

Thanks in advance, whitecobra95
