How hard is it to install a clutch pedal setup on an 87 gt? I am switching from aod to 5 speed and i wanted to know what is involed and the steps i have to do. Also is there a hole precut in the fire wall to run the clutch pedal through? And will i have to take out the dash to install the pedals? This question is aimed towards those out there who have done this before. :flag: :hail2: :nice:

Do a search on Google. You'll get the fordmuscle and several other complete swap instructions. One has a step by step checkoff sheet. I'm doing mine in Jan. The clutch cable goes thru the current speedo hole, the speedo cable gets moved over to an existing hole/grommet in the firewall. Don't have to pull the dash, but lower steering column and remove guage cluster to unhook speedo cable and get pedal assy. out/in.

It's actually pretty easy... The reason why people spend countless hours trying to get the damn thing out and in is because they don't drop the steering column. Do yourself a favor and drop the steering column, it will save you so much time. Anyway, Yes there is a hole for the clutch cable on the firewall. Next to the hole where your speedo cable goes through, there is a rubber plug filling another hole on the firewall. Pull this off and reroute the speedo cable through that hole (once you have the upper dash apart of course (e.g. gauge cluster, etc.)), and your clutch cable will go through the existing hole the speedo cable goes through. Here is a full write up I used. Print it out and use it just like regular instructions.

have fun ;)

i just did my swap a week ago,

drop your column, pull your guages, diconnect your speedo cable. on an auto the speedo cable is ran through the hole where the clutch cable goes on the maunual. so you need to relocate the speedo cable to the plugged hole right behind the manifold on the drivers side....

dropping the collumn does make it easier and it is really the only way to do it but, its still a pain in the ass. worst part of the swap.

spend the money and get a firewall adjuster and quadrant. the stock one is junk.

Sweet thanks guy's. I think im gonna re route the cables and put the pedal in. Then the next day i am gonna do tranny. I notice when you start then go back tofinish its easier.
