Clutch pedal problems or tranny(hope not)

Been having some trouble shifting lately. Hard to go into reverse , sometimes hard to get back into 1st and 2nd gear. Seems like there is excess play in cars clutch pedal to me. Have 2 inches or a bit more of free play on clutch pedal. So got my car on jacks at the moment and took off that cover on my bellhousing. Took this pic , doesnt seem like my mechanic set it up right :

Oh it is loose also, just a nut on the side you can see. Anyone able to help with some advice on this setup?

Did you have any work done to the clutch cable? You mention you're not sure if your mechanic set it up right, but you didn't mention of the problem started after he did work on it.

It sounds like your clutch may not be disengaging all the way. Like mnbf said, cable could be stretched.

It's probably (hopefully) a problem with the cable and not the tranny, it's a lot less expensive!

I just bought a new clutch quadrant, cable, and firewall adjuster from Maximum Motorsports. I haven't installed it yet, but they look like quality parts. If you end up needing a new cable and such, check them out.

Got my motor built not too long ago, like 5 months ago or so havent put many miles on it really. Talking about the mechanic that put motor back in for me. Oh if it is adjustable cable or not have no clue. Know its not a stock cable. Recall getting a cable and quadrant, but that was around ten years ago probably. Where would the adjustment be at?
 
That looks to be an adjustable cable. And you have a TON of slack. Dial the slack out (with the nut) and check adjustment. Then get a locknut (there should have been one) if you dont have one, to help keep the adjustment.

Got a locknut, there wasnt one on it ! Mechanic had left the eclip off that held the end of the clutch cable in also:mad: Shifts 200% better now :nice: ! Still falls outta 3rd gear at times tho. Wonder what that is on a tremec 3550:shrug: ? Thanks for the advice gang :D
