Hi guys, long time reader, first time poster.

I have a 93 GT 5 speed that has developed a high pitched noise. The noise occurs while the clutch pedal is not depressed, and goes away when engaged.

I don't have access to a lift so I have yet to physically inspect it, but are throwout/pilot bearings a relatively common issue? If so, does the noise I describe fir the profile?

Just trying to get some heads up before I get the car up on a rack.

Thanks!

Sounds like the throwout bearing to me. Just replaced one in Frankenstang's V-6 '04 ... and although it operates smoother, now it makes that exact same chirping noise that you're describing because the bearing is defective. Grrrrr... :bang:

Any idea of how vital it is for me to jump on this and replace it ASAP? Will the sound get progressively worse or will the bearing end up seizing eventually and totally screw me?

I hate to skimp on repairs but I don't have the time or resources to drop a tranny and mess with clutch parts right now, if its something that will last for a while I would probably let it ride.

if not the throwout bearing, does the noise sound like a chatter? if so your clutch could be chattering which could be caused from a number of problems, oil on the clutch to bad trans or engine mounts. but you wont know til you take it apart keep it posted
