im restless and cant wait for mustang tuning to get more stock and since i can get comp cams locally.

i originally want VT Stage 1 cams, but what model/s are equivalent to it in Comp?

Can't answer your question, but on an unrelated note, I've been waiting for my chin spoiler from Mustang Tuning (listed in big black letters on their front page at the time as "IN STOCK READY TO SHIP") for 2 weeks. I like how the money disappeared from my account the day I ordered it though (especially strange considering I'm being told they aren't in stock right now.. why take the money when you don't have the part?)

From what I seen, ALL of comps cams have the exact same lift (.550) ...the only thing is durration and maybe intake centerline. Durration on the bigger cams is why they want you to change springs (not needed with 262s or 270s supposedly). Lift it the main thing, but I guess they dont want the stock spring being pressed down that hard for that long. Anyways, Vts have like the same lift..but much lower intake centerline (LCA). that =s better scavaging for a N/A engine and more power. Comps have almost a blower LCA and will work VERY will with FI.
SO if your staying N/A, then VTs hands down. Going S/C then comps. The VTs let ALOT of boost out of the exhaust because of the overlap (low LCA)

BTW overlap is where BOTH the inatke and exhaust valves are open at the same time...in a N/A motor the out going exhaust creats a vaccume in the cylinder at the end of the exxhaust cycle and helps PULL the fresh air out of the inatke maniflod and into the cylinder [even before the piston goes down to pull it in...so it gets a jump] and any remaining burnt air gets sucked OUT. VERY effectient by using its wasted energy to pull in the new unburnt air/gas.

BUT when you add boost to the mix, the air is already being forced in and while both valves are open, the boost goes straight through the intake valve and then right out the exhaust, thats why Scott or Jim say to NOT! use them with FI.

The comp XE262AH is has more duration and lift than the VT stage 1 N/A cam. The XE262AH has more intake duration and less exhaust duration and slightly less lift on both lobes than the VT Stage 2 N/A Cam. In both cases, the Comp cam has a greater lobe seperation angle.

In practice, I have seen very similar combinations with both the VT Stage 2 and the Comp XE262AH and personally prefer the Comp setup. I would guess that you will definitely prefer the Comp setup over the VT Stage 1.

^ Yep, but that tighter LCA makes up the small difference in lift/durration. :D A tight intake centerline does wonders in a N/A motor...thats what also gives it a somewhat choppy idle. I still reccomend the stg 1s over the 262s...from what I have heard the stg 1s still are more powerfull. But hey, either way...it doesnt matter. I LOVE my stg 1s and thats what I reccomend.

Well, I have to disagree about VT Stg 1 being superior to the Comp 262's. I have seen a few cars with the Comp 262s making more power than VT Stg II N/A cams with identical mods. The best results in a N/A Modular street car seem to be the cams that are not discriminating between intake and exhaust, kind of like the Comp line has.

i thought they discontinued making the chin spoilers indefinetly.

and whatever cams you decide on, tell me how hard the install was and how much they cost and where you get them. i want to do cams+nitrous one day as well, probably summertime if all goes well.

Im running the 262ah's and I would recommend a spring upgrade. The stock springs arent designed to handle the .550 lift.
I gotta agree here. And if your gonna do a spring change might as well go to a 270ah. Now for passing E-check not too sure if any will. But I'd think the Comp's would have a slightly better chance.
Now if your going N/A I'd do Vt's I've also been told they REALLY like Nitrous too.

I've talked to the guy (Paul) at Comp Cams, and he said you CAN'T run the .550 lift cams on a stock motor becuz of the duration and lift will hit the piston when it crowns! Now he put me in contact with Tim at Modular Power House and he said he is getting more power out of his Nitrous/Blower cam ($600) than either VT stg 3 or Comps 278 . And you can run it on a stock motor. To contact MPH call 770-751-0333 and tell them your looking at the Blower/Nitrous Custom Grind Cam. You will also need the upgraded valve springs. ($188 locally for me).
