Compression & Power Adders

I had some issues in the beginning because the guy who put the motor together was an idiot, that being said its been running great. I only use Sunoco 93 gas and Hess as a close second. My issue is the edlebrock heads there ported but I know there's more power in the motor with a set of 185's or in my case 205's this thing will see over 400 rwhp. IMO!!! If I were you I'd do a little work to the heads before you put them on but I would reco the higher compression. After this thread I'm going to get 150 shot after the head work.

Ive had a lot of set ups over the years and this one feels like it has the most potential.

Could anybody answer the difference in power between my set up w/ lower compression? Is it a substantial difference?

Ohhh 750 DP, NOT 750 HP. That's much better.:nice:

You EFI guys are funny. The Holley 750HP is a DP. :D

If you get a batch of e85 that is say e70, and tune the car on that you will have a very safe tune up.

2.) Also, you said plenty of guys run 11:1 with boost, thats true, but not a whole lot of windor guys do it. It takes a very efficient chamber design to pull that off. Which is why the new 5.0's make it look easy

1.) Tuning it fuel-wise for E70 is going to result in a leaner mixture with full E85. It really is a PITA to tune for a fuel with octane and stoich AFRs that vary as much as pump E85. The solution, short of a flex fuel retrofit and EFI, is to pad the tune a lot or blend down your own fuel to an ethanol percentage at or below the lowest coming out of local pumps.

2.) Since pushrod 5.0s don't have all the features that help DOHC 5.0s manage that combination, it will come down to timing and octane. Lots of octane...

I'm an EFI guy???? Now that's funny.

#1. If you're gonna assume something, be sure the answer to that assumption isn't in the thread you're commenting on.
#2. Had you read my previous reply, you'd see that I thought he was talking about Horse Power, not confusing a suffix on a Holley competition carburetor.
#3. Lastly, before you lump somebody in w/ a group w/o knowing the who they are, or what they have, you might wanna touch on their profile and see what it says. My profile info doesn't go 3 words before the words Carbureted 4.6 show up.

"You EFI guys"............Why I oughtta.................:chair:

Do you always get that offended when someone pokes fun at you? That's just...wow.

if you got a batch that you made e-85 or even e 90 you would have a safe tune no matter what, and still have the benefit of added octane

That's true. I suppose it depends on how much effort someone wants to put into mixing their own fuel. Raising the ethanol content means adding dry, 100% ethanol, which I figured wasn't as easy to get as premium pump gas or even pump 100(which presumably won't lower the octane of E70). Denatured alcohol might be suitable. It has a lot of methanol in it, though, which also plays with the AFR. Here it costs per gallon more than twice what VP 100 does.

I think CA is one of those states. Everything is illegal here.

190 proof is 95% alcohol with the balance being water because Everclear is, AFAIK, made by conventional distillation which cannot yield anything higher than ~95-96%. The remaining 4-5% H2O has to be removed by other means like a molecular sieve or desiccant.

Its illegal here in mass too, but im 20 minutes from the CT line, so i just got it there.

From what ive read about E-85 you can add methanol to it, to me, it seems worth the hassle, testing it isnt rocket science and around here there is nowhere to get 100 octane pump fuel. C16 is 18 bucks a galon these days. Phuck that noise.

I just wish we had more e85 stations around here. There are a few DSM guys running it and they have great luck with it.

might want to look into shell URT... 116oct unleaded. around 15-16 a gallon

but if you REALLY want to get fancy you can blend your own... blend fuel X with M1 ive heard of some very nasty race gas with a blend of C16 and M1 around a 50/50 mix
