Coolant got to 250* Overheat with alum heads??

Hey I was driving today and my manual fan switch came loose. I glanced down at the coolant temp and it was reading 250* I pulled over and found the problem within 2 minutes. Coolant was burbleing into the overflow tank. I started back up and got on the road in about a minute or so it came back to the usual 180-185*. This is a mechanical gauge with the probe in the manifold. I drove home and let it cool, and drove it again just now. Temps were normal.
Could this have caused a problem? If it did, I would think it would show up now, not later. Seems like everything is fine.... :SNSign:

so you were cruising and it started over heating? Usally a fan doesn't have to be on if you are cruising. They are to cool while idling and or stop and go to get air through the rad when you aren't really moving. If you were in stop and go then yep that sounds like the problem if not then maybe the thermostat stuck for a second.
