When installing a gauge for water temp, is the block plug on the drivers side under the headers towards the rear? I think thats what it was, and is the hole going to shoot boiling hot coolant in my face when I take it out? If thats the case how do you do it?

well first of all do it when your cars cool... then drain your coolant into a bucket and install the gauge, then fill back up and bleed the air out...

There are 2 possible install options there, and before you remove that block plug, make sure to read the second possible option and why I recommend that.

Thanks for that link, I think that I would like to go with the second option now that I see where its at. Cool.

Good idea (IMO.) I get MUCH more accurate temp readings now than I ever did before. I saw 230-250 after it got hot with the first method (as I say in the how-to.)

Sgarlic has a nice writeup, but just one other thing that I would suggest. Since the t-stat housing is so easy to get off, I would highly recommend that you remove it to do the drilling and tapping. That way you can ensure it is clean and free of any metal debris. Even with grease on the housing when you drill and tap, you still run the risk of getting metal inside. The last thing you want in your coolant system is metal debris.
