Wow dude, those are pretty small. I'm not poking, but I use that same one on my tranny cooler. The only way I see those working is with a huge shroud encasing both and covering the whole radiator. You should be good with the new fan though.(you can join our club of modified radiator supports.)

I got the Flex-a-lite #180...it was $309..ouch...at least it comes with the thermostat control and a sticker.

I started with the install and it is going to involve surgury on the radiator support...I just dont have enough room between the radiator and water pump pulley. I've began trimming the radiator support and modifying the mounting brackets I had fabed up. The radiator support trimmed quick and easy but my frame notches are a job better left for tommorow (don't worry I have MII).

I had 3.5 inches between the rad and pully, the fan unit takes somewhere between 4 and 4.5 inches. I'm shooting for as much clearance as I can get but I think im only gonna end up with about 3/8ths of an inch between the fan and the waterpump pully....

thats the reason i didnt get that fan,it was too thick. I used the fan from the Tortoise and trimmed about 3/8 from the shroud. It now sits about 3/8" from the Meizere electric water pump.I let it run in the driveway yesterday, about 75* day, and it barely reached about 175*.............this car used to run hot all the time too.View attachment 390835

So I get the new fan installed. Start the car, get it idling...go to see what this fan will do and nothing...fan doesnt spin.

I didnt hook it up through the termostat control unit yet, I just put leads directly to battery power and ground. Think maybe the control unit does something? Seems to me that its a n electric motor and should spin when you hit it with juice.

Thoughts?

Perhaps it was still through the thermostat? I have not seen how to wire it anyother way.

Or it's a two speed fan?, and you have to use ground with one of the leads?

Here is a linkto iskwezm's install a while back, it has a lot of info on the hook up...

Poking around with my multi-meter I started to wonder if either the power or ground wires I had ran to supply the fan were no good....perhaps a break or somethign that caused it to work intermittently.

I ran some fresh wire direct to the battery to check out the theory and the fan worked!

THe car now holds 165 degrees idling with the fan on. It is a 160 degree stat. so I think this project was a sucsess.

Thanks for everyone's input!
