Cooling questionn

My 66 fastback seems to be overheating on me, it is running about 220 in town. I have a Fluidyne alum radiator, Meziere 55gpm pump, and a electric fan that pulls 2900cfm. I took out the thermostat and have tried different flow regulators with little success. Any ideas?

How is your fan configured? Is it a pusher or a puller? Is that your only fan, or do you also have the engine/belt driven fan running?

Are you running coolant, or just straight water?

What size is the radiator and how many rows?

Add to those questions: What are you using for a fan shroud?

It is a 2 core alum. radiator, puller fan, 70/30 water mix, no shroud

I have pusher fans on mine, and have never had a problem with overheating. no shroud either.

try a cooler thermostat?

I took the thermostat out when I added the electric water pump. I have tried the different flow regulators from Moroso but it did not seem to help.

Best advice I ever got:

Add a shroud (takes the air away from the actual radiator instead of the rest of the engine bay)

Move the electric fan to the front of the radiator

Add a Flex Fan to the water pump.

The water pump is electric, so a belt driven fan is not an option. I thought that pullers were more efficient than pushers? I have removed the thermostat.

Have you checked your timing? How's your carb mixture? If your timing is late or isn't advancing when it should, it will get hot. Same goes for carb if it's very lean.

What brand of fan, I had a perma cool with the metal blades. I had some probs with overheating when I moved it to a puller thinking it would work better, but in fact those fans work terrible as a puller. If thats what you have, you might wanna try it as a pusher, I actually purchased a puller fan from Derale (sp?) and used the PermaCool as a pusher, worked nicely.
