The bottom end of my engine is on it's way out. I plan on doing a 306/308. How much is all the typical machining going to cost? I plan on forged pistons becase I plan on some spray and I will probally do a different cam. I'd like to do this in the not too distant future.

To bore, finish hone, align hone the mains, deck the block to "zero", tank, magnaflux, new cam bearins, freeze plugs and oil plugs and balance the rotating assembly runs right about $450-$500 here.

Once you start pricing it all out using a good piston, re-sizing the rods for ARP bolts, etc..you'll find you are only a few hundred dollars away from a Stroker.

I have a 4 bolt race block being prepped and machined this week.
Bored .030 over, honed, align hone, drilled for roller cam spider tray, square deck the block, tanked, magnaflux, cam bearings installed, freeze plugs and oil plugs. The total came out to be $609. I'll be reusing my current internals, the forged 331 kit i have now, now ill be looking at new main bearing, new rod bearings, piston rings, oil pump, and new gaskets and seals. Ill be reusing the bottem end hardware, all arp with under 2000 miles on it, shouldnt be a problem. Plus u need to have high temp silocone handy, assembly lube, and then there is always some extra that you forget....$$ Good luck

bore and hone w/torque plate..175.00, R&R cam brgs, freeze plugs and tank..75.00, balance assy 175.00, check alighn bore..20.00, alighn Bore 65.00, deck to 0 ...85.00, mock up to check deck 50.00 totals..580.00 to 625.00 here in the "Windy city Jax Fl."

Those prices arn't bad at all. I am also looking up DSS and they have some good prices. Thier 331 and 347 kit is under $1100, and the base bullet 331 is only $2000, $2400 for the pro bullet. Might be worth it to just buy a short block. Then again I will have to get a new balancer and flywheel, but I could sell the Romac 50oz for something. I'll just start saving some money and see were it takes me.

I don't know what kind of compressions I will want to run, probally around 10:1 and ballanced is a must. I'd really like to do a turbo or some spray. Of course I really want a 351 stroker but then I would have to replace everything. I guess I'll just start saving money.

Get the balancer and flywheel from DSS, they will balance the entire assembly right there in their facility. Thats how I did my kit, if i remember correctly, the balancer was 200 or so, same for the flywheel, and then balancing cost 150 or so..its adds up, but be sure u get what u paid for, a stroker kit is no good no good if its not balanced...Right!!??!!

i'm on the same plan (saving money). my mustang is not my daily driver but the 302 has been using oil for a long time. i thought i'd take it out when it breaks but....i guess what i'm saying is that on the way out still gives you a lot of time to save $ and consider combos. good luck.

Just a quick thought...10 to 1 is way to high if your thinking turbo or supercharger...Most say about 8 or 9:1 I think...Not sure,,,

Still if your rebuilding for something specific you should check it out...

I've looked into this and you can run 8-9lbs boost on 10:1 compression as long as you have a good intercooler, but that is far down the road. I will most likley just do a 306 and maby a little spray.

Here it costs me $8 a hole for boring, $40 to put in cam bearings, $25 to hot tank, $4/hole to torque plate hone. Don't remember what everything else cost.

You'll need some higher octane fuel then 93 for 8-9lbs of boost, the intercooler will help but it will not solve all the issues.
