COT & Talladega

I won't be at the race this weekend, but I'll be watchin' it on TV!

Just wondering what some of you think about running the COT for the first time at 'dega? I wonder if the additional drag will lower overall lap times? Wonder how important drafting will be with the COT on a long high-speed track? I'm anxious to see what the qualifying times will be too.

Will they be able to bump draft with the splitter?
Oh yeah. The COT's are almost cookie cutter identical now as far as the size and height of the front and back bumpers. When bump drafting the front splitter does not contact the other car. They also mandated a bunch of extra reinforcing in the bumpers. If anything these new COT's are able to handle the bump draft much better than their predecessors.

In that case I predict a demolition derby. :D

A bunch of square bricks pushing each other around the track bunched together even tighter than in the past............... All this at 190mph, sounds like fun.  I'll be watching

carnage. As usual, several chasers will be caught up in other drivers messes

Jacque Villenwtfever will be making his first race too. What better place to start then Dega in the COT

It's going to be fun to watch, just don't expect your favorite driver to do well :(

My parents are at the track right now camping out with some friends. Hopefully the new car wont kill such a good race.

I went to one of the races a few years ago at Talladega and it was the best race I had seen in person. The track is awesome, but good lord I think they gave away 3/4 of the tickets to the trailor parks within a 50 mile radius. Ive been to the Brickyard and Michigan and they are mostly normal people. But man on man Talladega is altogether different world.

Well the first practice is over and they were turning laps at a little over 194MPH so there's not a lot of difference in speed by the looks of it. :nice:

As for Talladega fans I think they are fantastic! Talk about some fans who know how to support their sport! What a giant party 'Dega is. It's a freakin' blast! :nice: Best race to attend on the circuit if you ask me.

I agree it was a fun race to attend, but I was suprised how many people wore and sold blatantly racist T-shirts, flags, hats, etc.

They may be good for NASCAR but a good portion should be steralized to save future generations.

Oh that...yea I do believe that is out of hand but you are in the deep south. The gene pool is kind of shallow here.
