Engine Counter Clockwise Water Pump Versus Clockwise

Hi guys,

I have an engine that I've been rebuilding that has a reverse rotation (counter clockwise) waterpump on it and I will be swapping it into the 79 that I just picked up. This may be a dumb question but is there anything that I'm going to need to change in order for my engine to work in there? The only things I'll be reusing from the 79 motor are the distributor and the carb that was on there.

The car or motor dont care which direction your wp spins as long as it spins the direction the impeller is designed to

As long as you use the proper belt routing , you'll be fine. I assume you are going to use the stock 5.0 serpentine setup with tensioner?

Okay that sounds good. I was intending to do use the stock serpentine setup and tensioner. Do you guys recommend using underdrive pulleys? I've heard mixed things but wanted to see what some of your guys thoughts were on them. I've heard of issues with running accessories in the car and things of that sort.

You will get both pro and con. I will give you my personal experience for what it is worth. I've used U/D pulleys on several cars with no charging or cooling issues. The keys are you must have a 130 amp alternator, the cooling system must be in good working condition, and do not use a race crank pulley. If you have an AOD, get the smaller alternator pulley.

Don't expect 20 hp from this mod. Maybe 10-15 but it is a noticeable SOP difference.
