As long as they follow up with additional questions or an offer. I DO hate when I get multiple "is this still available" questions and then crickets after I respond....

To their credit, there are a lot of people that don't take down ads or are in the process of selling and don't update the ad, so I can't necessarily fault them for asking.

Lack of communication in general chaps my ass. The first set of Recaros I tried to buy, the seller took 3 days to respond to my question, so I missed an opportunity to go see them over the weekend, then the seller sold them out from underneath me the day after. I understand this isn't Summit Racing, but I feel like that's just crappy etiquette.

I just don't bother anymore. If I can't get it on ebay, I consider it unobtainable. I just don't have the time to chase people around comsidering I have maybe a 2-hr window on a weekend to go pick up a part.

I might contact someone on a Wed to set up for a Sat pick-up...and not get a response until Monday. At that point you've just lost me.

Then there was the guy who lived 1 hr away who called me on the drive to tell me he sold the 1998 cobra wheels out from under me after setting this up and rearranging my schedule.

I'll pay 10-20% more on ebay not to deal with Aholes anymore.

That really sucks about the Cobra wheels. I'd have been pissed. I will say though, anymore eBay seems to artificially inflate the used market value of stuff, especially car parts. I watched that first set of Recaros like mine sell for $400 locally, then bought mine for $400 through F-book, and in-between those two sets, I talked to a seller on eBay who asked $900 and got $700 for another identical set.

Yeah, the "Hey, I'm interested in your XXX" without anything else is pretty funny. What are you supposed to say to that? Maybe, "Thanks for letting me know," or, "Excellent, because I'm not interested in it anymore."

Yeah, it sounds like a lot of awkwardness on Craiglists is the lack of communication and dialog. (Perhaps a societal trend in our monosyllabic world??)
Anyway, for car parts, it seems like it is good to post on sites like Stangnet (and even the Corral.net) with car enthusiasts. But, there is no payment system and I believe that is what seems to work well for those that don't communicate well (money talks??). However, places like eBay are expensive when you add up a the various costs that could be involved in posting, selling, payments, shipping, etc..
I came across Panjo (not affiliated with them other than a user) and I see they are free to post to (like Craigslist) and have a payment system (kind of like eBay) and have enthusiasts (like places such as Stangnet, Corral.net, etc.). They also have local pickup options (sort of like Craigslist/eBay). However, I don't see a lot of Ford/Mustang influence on there (just one Mustang site is connected that I could see). But, they do have a new of automotive enthusiasts on there (AudiZine actually links to them instead of using their own classifieds section). So, if there was a way to get more folks interested in a site like Panjo then perhaps we could start reducing our use of Craigslist and all the fun we seem to have there??
https://www.panjo.com/homepage

I didn't look for other sites like this, but it seemed to be worth a look.

"Hey you still got that timing chain cover for the 5.0. Text me ###-###-####"

Me: "Sure. I've still got it. Make me an offer. I don't like giving out my phone number or texting people. Sorry. I get email directly on my phone, though. My name's chris, too. "

25$

Me: "Sure. Does the weekend work for you?"

"It should. Just let me know when"

Me: Ok. How about noon on Saturday? We can meet up at the Panera Bread in Seaside. It's not too far from the house.

"Let me check with my lady and make sure we aren't doing anything."

2 days later:

Me: "Chris, I've decided to throw it away. Find another one."

I love when you have a car on cl and say you are asking 4k. I always get some dummy who emails and says "I will give you 2k cash for it". Never seen it. Know nothing about it but they are willing to give you half what you are asking. I always want to respond "2k is a deal. Come get it. Maybe you should wait a little while though, the fire dept almost has the fire out. Looking forward to that 2k cash!"

Another one gung ho enough to find me both here (link) and on craigslist. Implied he'd link up with me today, but didn't follow through. Meanwhile, another guy swooped in, paid me as a gift on paypal, and owns the parts assuming he shows up to claim them on Thursday/Friday. Happy ending on this one.

The fact dude paid as a gift via paypal is kinda mind blowing.

Oh then the one that pisses me off. Found a set of clean '98 Cobra wheels. Set up time to drive one hour out to get them.

I leave and then get a text halfway there that someone else local just called and came to get them. This was after I was already on the way. I was pissed.

Then there's the hassle I went through to sell my GT40P heads. Since I didn't want to meet at my house..three times I loaded them into car to carry with me to meet a potential seller. Three times they flakes. Three times I carried them back into basement.

I'm literally at the point of digging a hole in the yard and chucking them in.

That BS happened to me with a car... few years back, getting my daughter her first car, found a nice (was either Honda or Toyota can't remember now) guy was about 1 1/2 hours away, I said, you want my number in case something happens you sell it or something? he said no, no ones calling about it... told him I'm leaving after work... I get all the way there... house is dark as a MOFO... knock on door no answer.... call the #, guy answers, says oh, I sold it... you mofo.... I'm still pissed I didn't pick up the big flower pot and smash it through the door glass.... I had already pulled out of driveway when I thought about it, but just keep going...

Haha, I just listed before I left for work the new SLP resonators that came with the new SLP loudmouth exhaust I bought before Christmas and installed on my car, I ordered the loadmouth II mufflers at the same time and that's what I installed, ... so I put the resonators up for sale... I check my texts when I get to work, (mind you this is before 7am) and I have a

"Please my mom will like to know if you still have this item (SLP Bullet-Type Resonator ) for sale, get back to her via xxx@gmail.com. thanks"

yeah that has scam all over it... kiss my azz, delete....

I ended up dropping the price to $40 for those heads....probably took almost a year of passively trying to sell them to get someone to actually follow through.

I lost money..but just happy to have them gone.

I finally sold off my MAF on ebay just before Christmas which was nice for some extra gift giving. I still look on CL every now and then but I'm done selling there. I got rid of Facespace because it makes my brain hurt, but it really seems like the marketplace is killing CL off.

The marketplace and the FB groups are really the only reason I go on Bookface. I've gotten some handy tech there, as well as made requests for parts and gotten them in short order.

For the most part, other than browsing the local fox market, i'm done with CL.

I keep hearing about the facebook market place and how I should be on there.
While i'm pretty tech and internet savvy, I've yet to make a facebook account, and frankly I don't want to, to me just seems like a lot of BS transpires there.
I've nearly run out of stuff to buy for my car, but I have a couple of other hobby's that apparently most sales have moved to the FB market place.
It's been suggested I just make a fake account, which I may have to do.

As with anything, the maturity level tends to follow the audience. There are a few foxbody FB groups filled with immature people and some BS does fly, but some of the groups i'm in are pretty good and the discussion tends to be centered around purely tech.
