I have a Sonoma to finish a 400hp 350 build for, an Avalon that needs the interior stripped and a cage installed, a Mazda 3 that needs a new engine (picked it up for $250, should be an easy flip), a Kia Rondo that needs an A/C compressor and then to be sold, a Suburban that needs a water pump, and a Civic that needs some paint.

AND? The Sonoma is the new hot rod. I already have it, it's paid for, I was already building a 4L60E able to handle 450-500 horsepower for it anyway, and a junkyard 350 Vortec is all of $300. Throw $250 worth of rebuild parts at it, an LT4 hot cam, LS6 springs, an intake, and a 750cfm carburetor, wire the sensors from the 4.3 to it for the trans to be controlled by the existing PCM, order the cheap Chinese headers and engine mounts from eBay, and I should have a 12-second pickup that sounds amazing and can still be used as a truck since it's a longbed.

Probably not. The Kia's A/C compressor and belt have been sitting in the floorboard since July. The Sonoma's transmission parts have been stacked discreetly under my dining table for a year. The fiancee's Civic has needed the roof re-cleare-coated since we met nearly two years ago. The Avalon is about to become a daily driven Lemons car. The Mazda has been sitting six months already waiting on me to go get an engine for it.

You know I was just poking fun, right? Lord knows I have no room to talk!

Side note: I was cleaning off the garage pad the other day and burned a lot of leaves and stuff. I took the opportunity while the pile was smoldering to start looking over my 55 again. I had to call my mom and ask her what my dad was thinking when he bought it; there won't be an original piece of sheet metal on that car except maybe the roof and firewall - and those are questionable.... I kind of feel like something else just died in me.

I got there when I was fixing my papaw's '75 Chevy C10 that had also been my first car. I had the crushing realization that by the time I was finished restoring it, the only things left that would have been his were the frame and driveshaft. That's when I parted it out.

Yep, that's pretty much what's been running through my head lately too - and it kills me.

But your better news looks like a good candidate for someone! Too bad I'm so close yet so far from being able to do something with it....

I also have one unbuilt that was picked up before I bought my car new, maybe 1976? Really should get it to a person that will build it.

I also have an early Fox model kicking around someplace that I've never put together. I even saw it recently. Has to be er... prior to 2000 when I got the thing.

It's kinda funny how you just shared that. I've been thinking over the past couple weeks that I should probably dig one out and get started on something. I even went to Hobby Town and did a little paint shopping, though I come home empty handed. The latest addition to the list is the GT vert, I was thinking I'd build it as how my car came stock, but medium cabernet isn't well represented by a readily available model paint.

But here's the small collection I have. A couple of them were started years ago, then boxed back up and left - most likely due to a move, then never brought back out.

Seller's description
Selling my 1977 Mustang II V8 Coupe to make room for new toys. This car has documented 16,690 miles on it only (Will go up the longer I own it). Odometer in pictures. I am the 3rd owner and have paper work all the way back to original owner. This is one of the cleanest low mileage examples of a Mustang II you will ever find. The car runs and drives perfectly, and just got new white wall tires 8 months ago. I have owned the car for years and all maintenance is kept at all times so it can drive anywhere. I have a clean title in my name.

Now for the money part. This will be cash only sale. I do not want any trades (If you have something worth the same then sale it and bring me the cash). I am not doing deposits or putting on holds. First one to show up with cash in hand gets it. If you want to inspect the car on a lift I will be more than happy to meet you at my shop and have the guys put it in the lift for you.

Feel free to reach out with any questions not answered here and I will gladly answer them. If ad is up the car is available.

I'm pretty sure she's too far gone to fix. If I had somewhere to stash it I'd grab it for that price and strip it for parts to stash and/or resale. There's a lot of 30s and 40s cars showing up cheap on FB lately that could use the suspension and steering.

I'm not sure you'd even be able to recoup that $200 if you tried to part it out.

Both tail lamps and all of the glass would get that back. I've had crazy amounts of success selling the hood latches and cables out of the two I put hood pins in (like $50 each), both of the front fenders, doors, and decklid look like they're possibly salvageable in the pics, if the rear end is an 8", that's worth something (might even get $200 for that alone), there's the front suspension if I didn't have possible plans for it, the hood is solid, and all of the aluminum trim seems intact. That car could easily be profitable from selling parts, and then I could cut the rest up with a Sawzall, load it onto my trailer with other random scrap, and get probably $50-100 for the scrap metal. The worst part would be wearing a respirator and paper paint suit in the heat down here while gutting the interior, which looks to be almost completely destroyed and mold infested.

I could easily get the $200 out of it and keep the front suspension and rear end to build a T-bucket, 30s/40s hot rod, dune buggy, mini truck, EV project, etc with.

I'm really good at parting out cars, my '75 Chevy C10, my '74 Mustang II, and my '76 Mustang II all ended up parted out for 3-5 times what I was asking for them whole, and even kept certain parts from each of them.

Fun note... that GMC Sonoma of mine is probably going to have the header-back Flowmaster exhaust I built for the '76 after it gets a V8 swap. (I'm also good at hoarding parts...)

If there was ever a II that could talk me back into one that wasn't a '76-77.5 Cobra II or '78 King Cobra... This just might be it, but not for $8000. I'd happily do $3-4k, maybe even $5k, but even for the rarity of a Silver Edition Ghia... They're just not nearly as desirable as a Cobra, and there's whatever nightmare lurks under the vinyl to consider.
